bottle. pours a reddish-brown body with a medium tan head. aroma fairly nutty but also has some faint roasted malt and chocolate. hmm, fairly straightforward for the style though that’s not to say that it isn’t tasty! bittersweet chocolate abound, as well as a slightly understated roastiness, leading into a sticky and mildly bitter finish. pretty good.

Kind of flat, but flavorful with softly roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, and a touch of coffee followed by a nutty bitter finish. The taste is stronger than the nose, releasing these aromas at a much milder level. A dark reddish brown with almost no head, it looks like most "okay" brown ales. The slightly higher than usual abv is all that seems to be making this a special seasonal beer.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - my bottle. Poured deep clear mahogany-brown with a large lasting creamy-foamy light brown head. Dark roast malt, somewhat funky and vegetal at first but it mellows to include chocolate, mild coffee and a hint of vanilla. Taste is more chocolate malt, fairly bitter, almost sour - peaty with tart berryfruit on warming. Mouthfeel flat, body average to a bit watery. Not much of a seasonal, but a pedestrian brown ale in its own right.

(12 oz bottle: Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) A bottle from last winter (’04 - ’05), so this is a year old. Similar to the Downtown Brown, but less chocolaty, instead with a deeper, darker and spicier flavor. Sweet, malty, roasty, spicy, lots of molasses, some hops and moderate bitterness, and in all, very much like an American winter beer. The spices really stand out as the beer warms up. Not as aromatic as the beer is flavorful, but the nose is malty, roasty and spicy. Like the Downtown Brown, the body is medium and carbonation is fairly standard. Muddy, ruddy, medium brown body is topped by a small, light tan head. Quite good, but not significantly better than the Downtown.

Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is malty and of chocolate. Flavor is nice, it has a light chocolate flavor, not a bad finish, kind of dry. Not too impressed, but its ok.

Dark brown body that seems to have a litle bit of rust coloring at the edges. The head is slightly yellowish colored. The aroma is medicinal with band aids and some apples. There is also a hint of chocolate Not as bad once it warms. The taste is light chocolate and band aids. There is also some light cardboard. The finish is dry with some cheap milk chocolate. Thanks for the beer, Weep.

Aroma of malt and chocolate, Cloudy auburn, good sized tan head, lot’s of lace. Flavour of malt, hops, mocha, nuts and treacle. Medium bodied, complex, wonderful mouthfeel, bitter too. Fabulous!

bottle. Pours a nice rich, brown hue with a pleasantly creamy tan head. There’s a chocolate and bread aroma. This tastes like dark baking chocolate with a cacao bitterness. There’s a bit of sweet malt to keep some balance. Pretty pleasant drinking, but I think it’s too thin for a winter brew.
