Yellow-gold looking beer that resembles a macro. No head really. Sparkly on the tongue. Has a few waves of flavor such as a mellow malt flavor. Final hop burst occurs last with the bitterness receptors of the tongue tingling long after the swallow. Very light for what Americans think of as Oktoberfest, but unfortunately closely approximates what they serve today in the Munchen tents. UPDATE: just had a liter of this at the Oktoberfest in Munich. Too good to describe. I'm an idiot for ever rating this beer this low. A maas of this will change your life after the zeit of it all. desurfer (1067), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA
| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 1/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Sep 17, 2004 Pours a light gold with a white head...sure doesn’t look like a Marzen. Smells like road-kill skunk. Tastes like skunk and grass. There’s no way this can be an Oktoberfest. It’s like a Bud Ice that a skunk farted on. legion242 (1582), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Sep 17, 2004 Not what I expected. Alcohol is well hidden. None of the nice malted flavors that I would normally like for the style. HighGravity (890), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 17, 2004 Weird all around. Very pale and sweet, but the malt flavors were enjoyable. Not a marzen. JorisPPattyn (5171), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 17, 2004 (draught) Pale gold; collapsing snow-white head, reasonnably dense. Very grainy and slightly soapy nose. Malt is intense after some time. Clean, rather sweet, crisp taste. In America one would suspect maize, probably not in this. Mouthfeel is its Achilles’ heel: slick and slightly cloying with metallic tang. The landlord, offering me this beer in Krefeld, justly stated this beer is different every year. Well, this year is not going to be a vintage... pobenohne (504), Northern Liberties, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 12, 2004 12 oz bottle. Big barley beer, with a hint of grasses - kind of like a well made homebrew or a sweet lager - maybe a souped up Schultheiss/Kindl? The label says 6.1% - I don’t taste it, but I do feel it. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 11, 2004 Something like an "Imperial Helles", which is a bad idea, and so is this beer. The alcohol overwhelms some emerging malt sweetness, leaving the whole thing rather ungood. Needs balance and flavor. Jukkabro (3016), Tampere, Finland
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Sep 7, 2004 Pale yellow color with little white head. Sweet and malty aroma, maybe hint of alcohol in there too. Medium bodied palate, may be due from strong alcohol, which has strong flavor coming up in the end. Dull flavored brew, only slightly malty and alcoholic.I was expecting very much more out of this.
