Draught, in the Löwenbräu Keller, Munich. Pours dark russet-brown, with decent creamy off-white head. Aroma of dark malts, dates and chocolate. Complex but well balanced on the palate, with smoky overtones. A very decent Doppelbock.

Bierkonig from Holland and immediately drunk. Smells and tastes like an old ale and a malty brown ale combined. Not too sweet, rich and a sipper. One of the best German beers I have had, and unique for what I have ever had. Complex between the malt and what seems like a German barleywine.

Bottle. Prune, cherry and malt aroma - moderate astringency. Dark brown/red color with minimal head. Sweet dried cherry/raisin, barley malt flavor - moderate astringency. Nice - on the lighter side.

Uber-malty beer that has nice toffee notes and demands a hunk of roasted meat. Bottle pours dark brown with mahogany highlights, tan head lasts a while. Nose is not too strong but aroma includes toffee, caramel, chocolate, tootsie-roll. Moderately sweet flavor checked by moderate bitterness, which adds to malty backdrop impression of bitter dark chocolate. It all melds together well, even if balance lens a bit toward bitter – which is OK with me.
