This bottle had been aged a few years, and I thought it was a touch passed its prime. Notes of oxidation, not painfully distracting, but kinda just kicking around enough to wish it were newer. Toasty and warming with a fruity chocolate finish. Light clove spicing in the finish and minerally. reakt (937), Greater London, England

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Earthy toffee and various berries are sculpted by a talented maltiness which creates a healthy body. This classic doppelbock cannot disappoint if you have a hankering for a textbook example of the style.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Nose is a timid version of the flavor profile.
-A slice of foam sits atop the transparent mahogany.
-Mineral notes don’t bother.
-The mouthfeel isn’t too heavy, nor is it too scrawny.
-There is little supporting hoppiness, but it is present with some herbaceous qualities.
-Timid roastiness renders more complexity to the already pleasurable maltiness.
Bottle; best before Sept.’07.
