Nose is sweet and complex, fruity (grape) and malty, slight touch of alcohol and hops. Sweet, a little sugary, but it’s more like colored Easter candy sugar. Not quite sticky. Extremely smooth, gentle and warming. Vinous, structured, makes me salivate just thinking about it. Maltiness is very thick with some caramel and brown sugar. Dry and delcious – an excellent Doppelbock! kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2006 Sweet syrupy and molasses nose, dark hazelnut color, fluffy foamy head. Caramel sweet malt body, light dry spice end. Heavy and thick. Very sweet overall. Leaves a sugary deposit on your lips after the swallow. Sophisticated, yes. Big beer, yes. But not so special overall. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 24, 2006 Translucent and fiery cherry-amber in color with a creamy, oily and tannish-grey head. Head retention doesn’t entirely endure, but it was otherwise a beautiful looking beer. Aroma is right on target - peppered caramel, copper toffee, rich chocolate accented pecans and brazil nuts, and moderate brown sugar & allspice. There’s depth, if you take the time to take it in. Vibrant bock traits lead right into the big flavors, culminating toffee chews with cocoa abrasions. Fieriness carries through on peppery sails, further livened by slightly burnt apple wedges, now caramelized and sprinkled with bark shavings and nutmeg. Nutty pear traits and a hint of pralines & golden raisins further the alluring fruit flavor force. Heavy liquid fluidity on the palate with just enough carbon dioxide to pump up the volume. Perfectly balanced in its dominion. Swiss chocolate compacted between the tongue and mouth top comes out prevalently in the finish, along with broiled apples, flan and earthen wonders. This is one hell of a doppelbock. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2006 Bottle. 1990 vintage at Kulminator...I think this one was 1.80E or something cheap thereabouts. The label was almost completely torn. Pours a brown caramel colour with a tiny head. The aroma has caramel, toast, and minerals. Flavour largely consists of bread, cookies, and caramel. Quick finish. Pretty good considering the age. MoritzF (4995), Bochum, Germany

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2006 Bottle: Very dark amber coloured with red tints, mid-sized, quite firm off-white head, sticking to the glass; rather dry, complex nose: roasted malt, caramel, liquorice, molasses, dried fruit and dried mushrooms (!), ceps or morels; sweetish, mushroomy flavour; slightly sweet-malty finish with some faint chocolatey bitterness in the end; well hidden alcohol, a bit warming. A basic Doppelbock, not bad at all..............
