Dark amber. Tan head that dissipates to a thin film. Resinous nose with hints of caramel and dark malts. Some notes of alcohol on the nose, but melded nicely with the malty notes. Medium-bodied for such a big ale, and frankly slightly disappointing in this regard. Slightly hot. Taste profile matches the nose and is what one might expect for an abt (invert sugar, deep malts, some dried fruits reminiscent of fig or date ... a bit raisiny).

750 ml bottle corked and caged shared by Tmoney99. Pours a cloudy, dark copper body with a medium creamy beige head. The aroma is light caramel, dark fruits figs and plums, a little chocolate, and a quaff of yeast. The flavor begins sweet with caramel and dried dark fruit flavors and finishes warming and a touch roasted with some yeasty spiciness. Medium-bodied with medium carbonation. The alcohol, although mostly hidden, came out with warmth. There are other examples I would go to first. Too much sweetness in the finish.

750 ml bottle purchased in July 2008, stored in my beer cellar until December 2009. Very dark ruby red with a large light beige head that settles over 5 minutes to a surface layer of fine bubbles, with good lacing. Aroma has notes of vanilla, chocolate and dates Begins with dark cocoa and progresses through raisins to scotch, with a bitter cocoa finish. Alcohol shows through. Nice body, better than most abts. D: I expected more of a mellow flavor after 15 months of storage, this one still had quite a punch. Reasonably good complexity, not outstanding, but definitely in the upper half of Belgian abts.

Bottle… Murky, prune-colored ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The aroma offers big-time chocolate, hay, molasses, candy sugar and dates. Medium to full-bodied and oily with lively carbonation. Sweet, nutty, chocolaty flavor. Bittersweet, date-like finish.

Pours a deep ruby-brown with a medium tan, poofy head. Looks good. Aroma is of cinnamon, brown sugar, dark purple fruit, candy sugar. Flavor again with the dark fruit, a nice nuttiness throughout, hops show up now in front of the sweet malt behind. Thicker viscosity, medium carbo, a little hot on the finish. Overall, very good plus.

Julio’s Belgian Beer Festival. Sample. By the time I got to this one I was seeing double. Rating it to keep track but don’t have any particulars.

Bottle. Pours with a largish, tan head over a hazy hazelnut hued body. A few alcohol legs, but light lacing. Aroma is raisin, toffee, chocolate, and alcohol. Taste is toffee, alcohol, fig and brandy. Very hot, with a lot of fusel, creamy bubbles.
