PorterPounder (2852), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 4, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl - Liquor Loft - 750 ml caged corked bottle. Dark chestnut pour with tight white head that clings to the edge of the glass. Heavy aroma of brown sugar, molasses and alcohol. Bold flavor with lots of candied sugar, molasses, butterscotch and brandy. Turns a bit "hot" though as it settles. Thickish, rich mouthfeel. Decent Quad. Dickinsonbeer (2550), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Sep 30, 2008 Pours a deep woody brown with some orangey ruby highlights and a fizzy diminishing head. Aroma is cloyingly sweet from the start- a wierd dirty earth smell- insanely sharp sweet malts and out fo control fusely esters hgih in raisin and solvent. Flavor is insanely sweet, with a wierd crackery dusty character after a bit- too much fruity esters, too much special B sharpness and just a poorly made quad. SuperDave70 (822), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 25, 2008 Pours a cloudy dark reddish-brown with a big creamy tan head that sticks around. Rich aroma of dark ripe fruit, yeast, brown sugar and spice. Flavor is good and somewhat similar, but lighter than expected from the big aroma. Seems pretty average on the palate, I would expect more from a Quad. Nice alcohol bite on the finish. Highly drinkable, and overall not a bad brew. BOLTZ7555 (528), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Sep 8, 2008 This one was tremendously disappointing. The aroma was impressive and almost wine-like. Dark grapes, raisins, brown sugar, and caramel find their way to the nose. Mahogany pour with a nice meringue head that’s khaki in color. It all goes down hill from there. All alcohol and dark fruit...VERY THIN. Maybe I got a bad bottle...a VERY BAD BOTTLE. twitcher (153), framingham, Massachusetts, USA Sep 7, 2008 bottle. Pours an opaque very dark brown, vigorous pour yields a nice inch beige head that clears, but leaves a nice layer and lacing. Heavy sweet aromas of figs, raisins, caramel. Very fruity on the nose. Flavor takes a different turn- dark toasted malt flavors, aggressive booze on the palate, some sharp vinious notes. Faint dry tartness. Palate is full and heavy, with lots of depth to the flavors, moderate bitter/boozy finish. Overall, a very interesting take on a Quad. A bit overdone, but certainly good. Slow drinking.
