Aroma is all licorice and nothing else. Flavor is mostly licorice with a root beer like quality to it. Too thin for a stout. CaptKirk (175), Hephzibah, Georgia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 20, 2005 Deep red color, lighter then you would think for a stout. Sweet smell that is unexpected. Finished sweet at first, then had a little bitterness. Fair beer to have there, but not in my fridge. Silphium (2144), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 19, 2005 Sampled at the Ohio Labor Day gathering, provided by Styles. Dark red-brown body, translucent, next to no head. Licorice and toast aroma. The body seemed excessively licoricey to me, with toast and little else. Little in the way of complexity or character. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA

Looked like cola, tasted like mocha latte--I have had better. Pailhead (2606), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2005 Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. Aroma of black licorice and root beer with a touch of chocolate. Pours a dark brown with an insignificant tan head. Lots of black licorice in the flavor with some light root beer in the background. Finishes with a light black coffee bitterness and a touch of mocha. A little thin for a stout. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 5, 2005 RATING #2000! Bottle provided from Wohlfs via Styles and enjoyed at the Labor Day Gathering:
Nearly opaque deep brown with some lace produced by a thin ring of bubbles. The aroma has notes of anise, plum, fig, chocolate, and smoky malts. The taste is very twangy and a large anise and peppery overtones. The base is quite earthy and has some coffee and mocha undertones. The finish is smoky and mildly bitter. The feel is oily and biting, some astrengent quality to the mouth feel. Okay and different, enjoyable for this stoutie. Onward towards 2112... BrewDad (2370), Olympia, Washington, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 29, 2005 This was a nice Stout but just did not ring my bell. The flavor was just missing something. I can hardly taste the rich flavors a stout should have. I was not impressed. Drank this at the Oregon Brewers Guild 2005 Dinner. Tom Servo (424), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 2, 2005 Had this with Wizzy and ZB, so the company might have made it better than it may have been. Dark, with an uneven head, which was weird. Verry cocoa and chocolatey. Not overly filling, which is nice for a stout.
