BiddleBrau (303), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Aug 21, 2008 On nitrogen. Opaque black with copper highlights and an off-white head. Roasted coffee aroma. Burnt flavor, slightly dry and cloying. This was too much black malt/burnt flavor for my liking.
WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Feb 8, 2008 3rd Brewery 07-08 Brew Trip with Bikesandbeer. Pours black with a half finger tan head. Nose is full of dry roasty malts. Taste is simple and in general a big eh. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 24, 2006 nitro tap at the brewpub - Pours dark brown to black with a moderate tan head. It smells like roasted malt and licorice. The latter seemed odd and no one else has mentioned it, so maybe it was just me. I thought the roasty flavor had some licorice notes too. This beer is awfully thin and watery for a stout. It has a mild hops finish. Not bad. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 4, 2006 Cask conditioned, this beer was dark brown with a nice 1/2 inch tan head. Aroma is was on with coffee, some chocolate and hopsbut the flavour has thin and flatter/ Finishes short and dry. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada May 28, 2006 Black beer. Lasting floam. Sour malt aroma. Interesting cold coffee flavours. slimweebs (139), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 5, 2005 A thin, bad attempt at an irish stout. Ive definitely had better. The flavor was alright, with a slightly bitter chocolate flavor, but the mouthfeel left much to be desired, and the finish was not impressive at all. Just left me wanting more. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 10, 2005 Dark brown with ruby edges, a light creamy head and spotty lacing. Bitter chocolate and roast malts dominate the nose. Bitter flavors. Almost tastes like a Guinness. Water, roast and chocolate mixed. Water and thin bodied. Finishes slightly sour.
