ilherps (108), Carbondale, Illinois, USA Aug 7, 2008 Pint at the brewpub. Not a whole lot of aroma, some maltyness. Nice caramel flavors with some roasted malts and a slightly hoppy finish. Very enjoyable.
hombrepalo (568), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 11, 2008 On tap @ Lunar. Poured a transparent brownnish amber, some head. Aroma hard to tell malty and hops, nothing special about the smell. A nutty flavor not as bitter as I expected. The flavors are alive, malts and citrus and somewhat watery. More of an amber ale than ESB. Good not great. stoutchap (293), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 20, 2008 Not typically a Bitter fan, but Lunar, again does a good job, even with a kind of brew that I don’t particularly like. Dark amber color with decent head. Some malt and hops in the nose. A decent nuttiness and bitter finish. Solid. I think Lunar brew prettysmall batches - perhaps others should give it another try. ElGaucho (1726), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 16, 2007 Draught. Aroma not so great; cardboard qualities. Reddish amber, hazy with a thin head. Flavor is thin, dry and altish. ESB’s must be a tough style to nail because I’ve had very few good ones. Rating may have been hampered by a small sample served a suboptimal temp (too warm). SubstanceT (1087), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Feb 12, 2007 #1014, on tap at the Brewery for the Feb 2007 Ratebeer Chicago Area gathering. Hazy with no real head. Nose is thin with just a bit of malts. Taste is thin but with just a bit of malts and cream. Drinkable.
