Pale transparent yellow with no head. Real nice honey falvor with a warming alcohol finish. Apple and white wine flavors as well. Even though the smell is strong alcohol, the alcohol in the flavor is balanced very well. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 10, 2004 Updated: Sep 11, 2004A very unique beverage. Similar to a japanese plum wine I once had. Clear yellowish straw color; very strong aroma of honey, maybe a hint of wildflowers. Powerful nose ... you don’t even have to sniff as it hits you like a Viking warhammer regardless. Thick and syrupy on the palate. Flavor is like fortified honey: sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, with a definite alcohol presence up front and on the back end ... leaves one with a pleasant warmth. I wasn’t sure if I liked it at first, but after half a goblet, I think it’s a pleasing drink. I wish I were drinking it from a horn or a flagon ... oh, well. Definitely an experience worth having, at any rate. SpockTheater (49), Louisiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 24, 2004 Strong smell of honey laced with alcohol. An explosion of honey that fades into the taste of the alcohol. I could see this stuff used with a good stern cup of tea. On it’s own, it’s a tad too overpowering and a touch sterile due to the high alcohol %. Alcoholist (570), Peoria, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 3, 2004 Golden colour with a sweet honey nose. Flavour is sweet but not too much so. Just a good classic mead, and very yummy mulled. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA

UPDATED: Just had a sample of the 2004 vintage and boy oh boy is this stuff bad. My orig rating of 3.2 is just too high. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 1/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 26, 2004 Sure, I hated the highly touted Cantillon St. Lamvinus and loved this lowly mead. Go figure. This didn’t look very appealing. Clear pale yellow and no head. Sweet honey nose and medium body. Flavor was like a dessert wine or a sherry. Why are meads considered beers? I don’t understand. But this was quite good. A pleasant surprise. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
