Commercial Description:
Called Reserve Mead in the UK and Special Reserve Mead in USA. ABV is around 16.5 - 17%.
Despite the annual dating, the recipe is the same each year.
Matured for six months in Oak Barrels which have previously been used for rum and whisky maturation. The mead picks up flavours of the whisky and rum, and is then filtered and bottled. The finished product is a completely different type of mead, more complex and drier than traditional versions.

This smells just like molasses with alcohol, but not too much to make it bad. A pale yellow white appearance is nice. Drank on the rocks, so sweet, so smooth. tastes like honey water and you can't tell how strong it is! fantastic. Only its price precludes me from buying it regularly

This smells like honeycombs, wax and all. Mingled with that is a woody, earthy aroma with some rock candy sweetness. The body is an ultra-pale gold and there’s no signs of carbonation. This is very smooth and warm in the mouth. The taste is honey, alcohol, damp soil, whiskey, and hard woods. The finish is sweet, but very, very dry. Alcohol warmth fills the mouth and sinuses. This is a mead I will definitely be drinking again.

750ml bottle from Utobeer, London. A friend bought this for me for Christmas and I have been savingit for a special occasion, which for me is Easter Sunday late afternoon. Let me straight away that I love mead. This is deep luminous gold wiht no head. Some nail varnish (acetone) but then nutty nougat. Thick unctious in mouth with rich honey and then white choc, nougat and praline. Deep, rich and satisfying, but light and agile at the same time. Oh and then it is very sweet. Rather gorgeous

Light apple juice color. The nose is filled with notes of rum, honey, and oak. The palate is hot and mildly oaky, with a touch of apple crispness. The mead finishes dry with a touch of whiskey. Good once in a while.

My favorite of the lurgashall meads. Full honey aroma. Some carbonation. Sweet, but not sugary, and not as sweet as some others. Flavor has honey and apple, with just a hint of alcohol that does not detract from the experience.

2005 Vintage: Pour a pale yellow color. Aroma is very interesting and aromatic w/ a defined honey presence. Other aromas of tart wild green apples, whiskey, and nuts. A medium bodied wine w/ a very complex nature. It’s multi-layered w/ a thick honey sweetness that rolls over your palate coating it with lucious flavors of honeycomb, vanilla, must, and nuts. Then, almost simultaneously w/ just a slight delay this unruly tart, acidic, crispness that washes away the sweetness leaving the palate w/ a strict tartness. This is where the rum and whiskey spirits come in scaring the palate w/ a lingering hot alcohol bittering. Flavors of unrippended green stone fruit and apples, cherries, and lemony cakebread. There is also an unmistakable aroma and flavor of a gasious nature, very much like a German Reisling. This is a nice wine. It takes some getting used to but the acid balanced out the sweetness, almost to well. Great for after dinner or for your date. If you like Madiera, you’ll appreciate this.

Special Reserve label; 2006 Vintage. Mead and 300 night at Brewfiends; this one thanks to him! Light yellow color. Powerful clover honey aroma with a strong hit of flowers. A bitter clove honey taste up front, but it finishes quite sweet.

Bottle: Clear gold in color, some legs, not much though. Aroma, honey and some fruits, faint spicing, some vanillla. Flavor, honey, hints of oak, some apple, a bit hot, and on the dry side. Not bad though.
