Lubiere (3182), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 25, 2008 An orange amber ale with a very thin white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, solvents, honey and alcohol. In mouth, a sweet beer with clover honey, a bit of vanilla. Short in mouth and way too sweet. On tap at Vices et Versa, 6 Feb. 2008. Quevillon (1273), Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Canada Dec 20, 2007 Bu le 19/12/07 à Vices et Versa, en fut (5 oz). Blonde miel, mince collet. Arome de miel fruité, petite touche de céréal en grain doux. Goût de miel faiblement malté, un peu de fruit épicé. Ordinairement buvable! MartinT (4307), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 19, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Powerful esters of banana purée team up with a floral honeyed sweetness in building a slick and syrupy strong novelty ale. Maybe mulling this would make it a more palatable wintry nectar?
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A flimsy ring of foam skirts the cloudy dull amber.
-Light herbs peek from behind the omnipotent sweetness.
-Underlying cinnamon and nutmeg are perceived/hallucinated.
-Carbonation is fizzy, which doesn’t work very well with the syrupy and flaccid sweetness.
-It feels like there is quite a thin beer underneath all that honey; in any case, malt-derived flavors are few and far between.
-A delicate hop bitterness attempts to dry up part of the finish.
-Alcohol heat is obvious as well.
-The doughy yeast does not seem to fit with the chosen honey in the flavor profile.
