Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Apr 30, 2006 Draught, all over the Puget Sound. Tasty beer. Pours hazy amber color with white foam head. Taste is that great mix of caramel malt sweetness and hop flavor. Nice full and chewy mouth feel. The finish still has the sweetness of the malt but now it is competing with a lingering hop bitterness and a bit of tang. Very good. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Apr 28, 2006 Draft at Safeco, while the Mariners got whipped by the White Sox, 13-3, with Dye going deep twice. Hazy brown, amber, muddy even, good head. Fresh green hop aroma. Caramel and toffee and biscuit body, and more biscuit with loads of thick hops. Vegetal, yet not. Full bodied hops? Not particularly bitter. Interesting, in fact unique, and good stuff. Dhrjericho (66), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 20, 2006 Updated: Jan 28, 2008Probably my favorite amber ale. It has a great aroma of citrus and hops and and astonishing citrus hop spiced flavor. You can find this great beer served at your next Seattle Mariners game. TedShultz (3), USA does not count Apr 2, 2006 Tough to get Mac & Jack’s if you’re not in the Seattle area, but this has been my favorite beer for some time now. If you’re in the Seattle area, I highly recommend giving it a try while you’re here. A dark amber ale, beautiful color, that smacks of caramel and citrus. A fantastic beer, to say the least! fakepurseninja (773), Washington, USA Mar 21, 2006 Updated: Jan 23, 2009Full bodied, deep smooth flavor - Perfect blend of everything you expect from a great ale.
Recently revisited - spicier than what I remember, added an edge that detracted from the sweet malt backbone.
Resampled again 6/9/2007 - Had it fresh out of a growler from the brewery. It was a very fresh batch and one that really embodied every great thing about this drink. Heavy, rich, roasted barley dominated well with some sweet molasses notes. Very creamy and smooth.
8/4/2007 - The more I drink this the more I realize how inconsistent it can be from batch to batch. Get the right one and its among the best, get the wrong and youll find it too thin or overhopped or overspiced. Ill keep my rating where it is for the finest example ive tried.
8/19/2007 - Another growler downed, this time a little thinner with a stronger caramel cereal malt base. a less impressive variant of a great drink. I estimate by this rating that I have drank over five gallons of this the past 12 months.
01/17/2008 - Another gallon down, another coming up this weekend.... Like the new Retail shop section of the brewery - where can I get one of those signs?
1/21/2009 - Melon components seem more pronounced than ever; you really need to get this stuff fresh to enjoy. TheLeadDog (101), Kent, Washington, USA Mar 1, 2006 Had 2 pints of this great beer at our local watering hole last night. Dark color, lots of chocolate and carmel flavors. Great aftertaste, with lingering finish. Foam head dissapated quickly but didn’t affect my rating. jdouglas3 (31), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 25, 2006 Cloudy brown color with small white head. Tastes of citrus and caramel, with a good amount of hops. Hard to pin down the aroma. Slightly bitter finish with the hops. Pretty good beer, but not my favorite style. jake65 (1658), Williston, North Dakota, USA Feb 21, 2006 Very tasty amber ale. Pours dark orange with a nice whitish head. Taste runs rampant with citrus, caramel, malt, and tasty hops. Easily one of my favorite amber ales.
