Thick and smooth, but crisp. I could actually distinguish both kinds of hops present. Amazing beer. A+ arhythmt (69), USA

Available only on tap, this beer is amazing when you first try one. Tremendous floral and fruit scents, very sweet but also hoppy, easy to drink a few pints in rapid succession. I think I’m a bit burned out on Mac and Jack’s by now, though, after hundreds of pints of the stuff. 22415brewery (67), redmond, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 1/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 25, 2009 Mac and Jack’s has an almost cult-like following here in the Seattle area and for good reason. Their flagship African Amber is pretty darn tasty albeit incredibly inconsistent when served on tap. Pours a dark almost muddy amber in color with thick opaque clouds of suspended yeast. Although the yeast adds tenfold to the flavor and mouthfeel of this amber, it completely kills it’s appearance...likening it to a glass of muddy red-hued water, maybe like the sahara desert? Great citrus hops (evidently each keg has a sack of hops inside) and a nutty malt-impression combine to make a very quaffable session ale. Incredibly inconsistent when purchased on tap, I’ve had it direct from the brewery (best) and all around the Puget Sound area and on several occasions wondered if it was even the same beer. It has a great aroma of citrus and hops and and astonishing citrus hop spiced flavor. You can find this great beer served at your next Seattle Mariners game. Troobie99 (60), Portland, Oregon, USA

It reminds me of the old swill they used to dump caramel color in and call ’dark.’ Might as well have a Henry’s. NWHopHead99 (58), Tacoma, Washington, USA

It lacks a hearty ’umph’ to it, and comes off a little thin. It’s color is deceptively dark for a beer with as little charecter - certainly not the roasted flavour I was expecting from the color. I prefer the amber ales from Redhook. Treephiend (57), Walla Walla, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 7, 2007 TAP - red cloudy amber, quickly diminishing head, no lacing. Very tasty hoppy, but not bitter at all, pretty sweet with strong hints of spices that I can’t put my finger on. More like a holiday ale in that way I guess... Anyway, superior amber ale a must taste! sandollor (47), Germany

On the darker side for an amber, this beer is a delightful refreshing beer to say the least. medium head with a crisp citrus undertone. Goes down smooth with a wonderful after taste that needs to be experienced to believe. Do yourself a favor and TRY THIS BEER.
