Commercial Description:
(translated) Ludwig Bayer has since 1878 been in Mack’s portfolio, and is a beer type that originates from Bayern in Germany. With considerable elements of dark malt types Ludwig Bayer is our darkest beer with a delightful dark color. This is a copious beer with a fine sweetness. With a mild element of hops Ludwig Bayer gets a light bitterness in the end. Enjoy this beer by 8 - 10 degrees C, preferably from a glass. Ludwig Bayer can be enjoyed with medium strong meat dishes or as a thirst extinguisher with good friends.

Clear, mahoney body. Aroma mainly of cloyingly sweet malts, cane sugar with hints of hops. Heavily sweet, lightly bitter flavour. Totally uninteresting.

From the Bottle at the GBBF, Earl’s Court 05/08/2009 Burnt roast malt aroma. Mid brown coloured with some alcohol present. A little sweet on the palate with a dry burnt malt finish.

A Mes rate. Bottle at GBBF.
Muddy brown, no head. Sticky malt, slightly pukey, very slight bitter note in the finish. That’s honestly it.

Bottle at LCRBM5. All the thanks have to go to Rune for this. Darkish brown, no head. Some malt on aroma, some malt in mouth, no real hop on finish. Syrupy malt. Pretty poor

Sampled at LCRBM, from the North of the North. Dark red-copper color. Sweet, fruity-malt nose. Light body and light flavor -- faintly sweet with light bitterness. Utterly quaffable, but so is water. Boring but OK.

[9/5/08] Bottle sample during LCRBM at Kulminator in Antwerp. Deep, slightly redddish, brown color. Aroma of toasted malt, light fruitiness and graininess and some caramel. Sweetish flavor with toasted malt, caramel and some nutes. Medium-bodied.

Bottle (courtesy of harrisoni): Clear, very deep amber coloured, small and very quickly collapsing off-white loose head, lively carbonation; very malty nose, solid traces of molasses; dryish bitter-sweet flavour, pretty light bodied; finishes relatively malty and also slightly caramelly. Not too bad, but too monotonous.........
