Looks appetizing the second you start pouring it. Aroma wasnt that strong, maybe a bit roasty. Flavor is very sweet- perhaps a bit too sweet for my taste but the palate is outstanding. You can taste it as you swallow and the aftertaste is very palatable. Very good option. marcus (1874), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 7, 2008 This dark brown ale poured with a decent brown fluffy head. The flavor is sweet roasted malt with chocolate and coffee elements and a fine bitter finish. This is my favorite British stout. grikmok (92), Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2008 12 oz bottle: Nice roasted malt aroma with a bit of caramel, coffee and toffee. Appearance is black with nice thick sized tan head the lingers around for while. Taste is a somewhat milky chocolate taste with the roasted malt and caramel coming through on the back end of the taste. Palate is somewhat carbonated, sweet, and has somewhat of a malt overtone. Overall, this is a really drinkable stout. People who don’t like stouts this would be something to bring them over, and people who do like stouts like myself. It’s still pretty darn good. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2008 12oz. brown bottle served in a shaker pint. Pours a deep black with hints of ruby. Fine bubbled tan head, less than a finger.
Fruity aroma with a little chocolate. Nice creamy mouthfeel.
Plenty of sweetness from the lactose and some fruity yeast flavors. Very smooth, not a lot of roasted malt flavors, but some chocolate.
Even thought they don’t make it in Britain any more, this is still a pretty nice beer. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Pours jet black with a thin dark tan head. Cocoa, lactose, mild herbal aroma. Very nice palate, its a bit thinner than it looks, but still gives a velvety mouthfeel. Taste is a nice balance between lactose sweetness and bitter roast, neither of them dialed up extremely high. The balance prevents the brew from being cloying. A very drinkable sweet stout.
