12oz. Bottle: Pours black with a chocolate tan head that leaves dark bubbly lacing, roasted malt and coffee aromas with a sweet creamy fragrance, roasted malt and dark malt flavors with coffee and chocolate mixed with some sweet flavors, not heavy on the palate, light to medium dry on the tongue, some burnt caramel or coffee flavor, little licorice taste, easy to swallow, finishes dry with lingering stout coffee flavor.

Pours jet black with a creamy tan head. The nose is of roasted coffee, chocolate and a hint of vinegar. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and creamy with subdued carbonation. The flavor is a creamy coffee with a hint of sour milk. Odd, but somewhat satisfying. I wondered if this bottle might have been infected until I saw that several other reviews mentioned the sour tinge to the flavor. Overall a tasty stout, but probably not one that I could drink as a session.

Bottle. Pours a creamy black color with a nice frothy tan head. Has an oily medium to thick body. Aroma is mildly coffee with milk chocolate being more noticeable. Flavor of malt and chocolate with little to no hop taste. Very smooth and easy to drink with no distinct personality to boast about. Has a very mellow, smooth finish.

Rated 1/6/06: I recognized the brewery as the same one that produces Sam Adams so I figured it had to be above par. I poured the bottle straight down the middle of a pint glass and was rewarded with a deep dark color and a nice thick head. The head stuck around for most of the beer which I was thankful for. This beer tastes good, not great. As far as stouts go this one is pretty standard no big thrills here. I enjoyed a couple back to back as they finish easily. I was surprised to find out that this is under 5%, I assumed a XXX Stout would perhaps mean strong or at least 6.5%. Not a big deal since the beer held its own.

Bottle at the Happy Gnome. Rich black pour with an oily texture. Nose of vanilla and cinnamon flavored milk, if there is such a thing. Tastes of maple and more lactose sugar, with notes of prune and grape soda. Layered, sophisticated palate, soft like a good single malt. Just a bit unpleasant with dairy flavor, but personable.

A nice stout. I almost rated this as an imperial stout (hence seeing "tripple stout" on the label. Now that I know that is what they were going for hats off to a decent beer. Pour was a dark brown with no head. Aroma of coffee. The mouthfeel was a little thin but became creamy in the swallow. Coffee and a little vanilla rounded off this nice little beer.

A great everyday triple fairly thin mouthfeel for a triple, good for people who aren’t fond of a real syrupy triples. smooth, sweet and a mild malt flavor strong chocolate aroma and flavor pleasently balanced with bitter coffee.
