A nice rich chocolatey coffee taste. On another note it states 4.9% alcohol but the buzz factor seems really low for this one. hair-old (137), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Whitbread is not doing their job on
supervision on this brew, wonderful in England, ruined in America. If it was’t for
the Burger beer residue on the tanks from Hudepohl this stout would have no flavour period. Beer Snob (382), Ontario, Canada

While the first bottle I tried had very little aroma, the second had a sweet fruit scent. A nice strong malted sweteness with a hint of coffee. Finishes witrh a pleasing bitter bite. Really nice. masterbeer (1), Ohio, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 24, 2006 This sticky beast of a stout was a long-time favorite of mine. Perfectly sweet with a think frothy head, people can’t help but mention chocolate when sipping Mackeson XXX. I also think of toffee, coffee and molases. But mostly, I think of excellent beer. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2006 Coarse carbonation clings to the walls, masking a chocolate essence with a corner of North Carolina mines. A fuming bubbly mass of amorphous deep coffee and cream jiggles atop. Aroma is minimally restricted to frozen Peaberry coffee grinds and russian coffee liqour. Flavor is a heavyset New Mexican smoker. I drop a pint of cream and it mingles with the dust of the floor. To this I had a heaping spoonful of Sanka. My whole grain bread pops from the toaster much too late, burnt heavily, but salvageable. Across the street, the fair is selling oreo crusted caramel apples and a horse bites one. My mother finds a box of her old toffees in the back of a dresser drawer. I peel the skin of a raw green apple and eat it, dressed with bitter salts. Finally, I head out to mow the lawn and it’s a little too cold. My allergies kick in. I fail to cogently experience the cough syrup. The Guatalmalan maid opens a new package of Mr.Clean. My long dead grandfather lights his chocolate pipe tobacco, inhales through his nose, bites a chocolate eclair and settles in for some long draws. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2006 Pours very dark with a dark brown head. Aromas is sweet and milky - lots of cream and some roasted malt and vanilla. Medium body that is creamy and smooth with light carbonation. Taste has vanilla and roasted malt with some sweetness - it is a bit watery though. Finish has hints of spice and sweetness comes out more as well as some bitternesss. Overall a good stout. lukin013 (211), Columbia, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 18, 2006 Pours pitch black with a very thick brown head. Rather thin texture is pretty mediocre. Flavor is very typical... not too complex... mostly chocolate with a bit of bitter coffee. A decent (and cheap) stout. smhncabot (310), Cabot, Arkansas, USA
