Upfront dry fizz that is almost painful. Chocolate front to back. Medium dry choco finish. mocarmel (48), Fortville, Indiana, USA

Very light spotty lacing. Nice roasted, chocolate aroma and flavor. Sweet, but has a slight hop zing. A nice full bodied beer. Thanks Steve. burpfrank (292), carpinteria, California, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 9, 2006 Looks like motor oil pouring out of the bottle and into my glass. Brown head dissipated quickly into thin ring. Aroma of sweet caramel, molasses and other malty notes. The smell really enhanced the first sip. Taste is more subtle than I was expecting. A bit on the watery side. I taste mild caramel malt flavors, black licorice, bit of coffee which is followed by a dry finish. Tasty. The sweetness does build up.. eaglefan538 (2383), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 8, 2006 Don’t know if I was drinking the same beer as everyone else, given my flavor profile. But, here it goes anyway.... poured a jet black color with a tan brown color that gave only minor lacing. The aroma was odd, somewhat medicinal, alcohol (only 4.9????), and oak. The flavor was comparable with chocolate and licorice dominating. Some coffee underneath, vinous and fruity flavors, oak, and no hop balance at all. Mouthfeel was lightly carbonated and medium to heavy bodied. Gave the overall an 8 for originality, but not my preference for a stout. WarFockewulf (21), Douglasville, Georgia, USA

Creamy head and sticky after taste. What a surprise. I want to brew one of these now! tommy8768 (120), Litlle Compton, Rhode Island, USA

Very chocolaty, also has coffee and burnt flavor to it. Very chewy beer. Could probably drink only 1 at a sitting. Very sweet but not bad.
