Has the aroma of caramel and a little coffee and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, little chocolate and coffee. Didn’t expect it to be as tasty as it was with the low ABV. Pretty darn good all around. FatTony (121), Augusta, Georgia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 28, 2008 12 ounce bottle- poured out an opaque black with a thin brown head that lasted the entire glass. The aroma was surprisingly light, black coffee and chocolate. Taste was a wonderfully bitter blend of strong coffee and bitter chocolate. Palate was incredibly smooth, almost oily. A top brew! checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jun 25, 2008 Bottle on Honeymoon in Jamaica: Poured a thick black color with a tan head. The aroma was coffee, milk chocolate and some Hershey’s syrup. The flavor was thick and creamy with some roasted chocolate malts and a hint of coffee as well. The finish was a strong bitterness. Overall, a decent brew TheCaptain (559), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 24, 2008 Poured in a Pillar Biter glass, like black coffee with a minimal coco head. Everything was there for me on this one, the roasted malt quality and chocolate notes with some subtle sweetness. Just seemed a little thin on all aspects and not enough ABV umph! In general a relatively good stout fredandboboflo (1417), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Bottle. Luscious aroma of bitter chocolate, cocoa powder, roasted malt, mellow (but still rich) coffee, alcohol, some doughiness. Flavor just continues to bring on more and more surprises for a 4.9% brew, all in the chocolate/dessert department. There remained something odd about the brew to me, after all the rich, sweet stout flavors, the finish had a nearly dopplebock feel to me, not really actually, I just can’t put my finger on it and that’s the best I could come up with. In any event, something just didn’t jive with me, but still a very, very rich and intriguing brew that I’ll be having again. LilBeerDoctor (1528), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a small ring of dark tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is amazing: rich truffles, chocolate, nougat, caramel, Milky Way, and cookies. Flavor is not quite as good as the aroma, but it is still quite tasty. Roasted malt, caramel, smores, nougat, chocolate, wood. Very rich and sweet (perhaps a little artificially sweet) and even a slight alcohol presence even though it is only 4.9% (I’d have thought it was at least 9%). A very interesting, tasty beer, especially if you really like chocolate and chocolatey sweets. I definitely want to have this again One of the best sweet stouts I’ve had. greenhorn1 (462), Mission Viejo, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 17, 2008 12 oz bottle. I am not sure what all the hub bub is about, but this beer is not a 94 in my humble opinion. Roasty chocolate aroma. Flavor is definitely on the sweet side, subtle roasted and chocolate malts. However, I did not enjoy the metallic taste in the finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Not bad, just should not be rated in the 90’s. WeeHeavySD (3040), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA
