kidmartinek (733), austin, Texas, USA Dec 22, 2007 Does that bubbling thing temporarily when you pour it, like a Guiness. Its coal black in color. This brew is delicious with flavors of sweet malt, never burnt, and caramel and chocolate. Wow! Awesome! Should be enjoyed more frequently by all who love stout!
AllAboutStout (527), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 3, 2008 Pours inky black in color, with a nice half inch of brown mocha head.
Smell is roasted malts, a little bit of chocolate and some molasses. Taste is much more chocolate than was in the nose. A good amount of bittering hops and carbonation. Medium body on the mouthfeel. Easy drinking and won’t do too much damage. At around $12 for a twelve pack this is a good tasting beer. abcfan (161), USA Oct 1, 2008 Could drink this one for days! Pours black with a nice tan/brown head that diminishes quickly. Has a nice roasty, chocolate aroma that is rather mild, but smooth. Taste is more complex than I anticipated. It has a nice mix of chocolate, coffee, some mild cherries with a tobacco/cigarette ash finish. Very smooth and creamy on the toungue with a slightly bitter cherry/coffee finish. Would drink again! Butters (425), Temporarily in Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours an opaque black with brown thin ring of head. Roasty, sweet chocolate, some tobacco leaves? Sweet, dark roast malt, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, cherries. Medium thin body. Delicious. I normally don’t care for sweet stouts, but this was superb. Angeloregon (2002), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 24, 2008 Bottle from Woodstock Wine and Deli in Portland, OR--Poured a thick dark, molasses body. No head. Pure engine oil and molasses. Sticky toffee, robust. Almost undoable. Eh. Boston Beer Company isn’t the brewer of the Mackeson XXX I had. It was brewed in London, England. kseecs16 (576), Westmont, Illinois, USA Sep 19, 2008 Bottle. Poured an opaque dark brown with a big chocolatey head that increases as air bubbles through the beer and settles atop the beer. Leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is coffee and malts with a biting alcohol note at first that settles down. Flavor is coffee, hints of chocolate with a roast after taste. A touch creamy in the mouth.
