awaisanen (1161), Irvine, California, USA Sep 2, 2007 On tap at the brewery. Pours a mostly transparent, cedar bark brown color with a healthy layer of foamy off-white head. Aromas of toasted hazelnut shells and overbaked french bread crust. Light bodied, crisply carbonated mouthfeel. A bit husky, with some mildly astringent grain huskiness and burned bread crusts. A bit thin on the palate, with a nutty, toasty quality making up more of the deep malt character; could really use some more mid-malt depth for body and to smooth out the rough edges a bit. Otherwise it’s relatively clean and straightforward brown ale. Tmoney99 (3636), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 14, 2007 Draft sampler at the brewpub. Poured a clear dark brown color with a medium off-white frothy head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Medium toasted nutty malty aroma. Medium body. Medium toasted bittersweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of average duration. drywall_man (200), Lake in the Hills, Illinois, USA Aug 30, 2004 I had this last week at the brewpub. This beer was definitely thin, but with a slight toasted malt flavor and nuttiness. Not real good, but drinkable. redmosquito (172), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Jun 14, 2004 A thin clear reddish brown beer with descent head. Toasty aroma with a hop background. Definite nutty flavor, with some hop character, good flavor but very thin mouthfeel. A very drinkable, flavorful brown for a warm spring afternoon. hennes (932), Fountain, Michigan, USA Jul 12, 2002 Very pretty brew with a decent, if rather sweet, nut browniness.
