JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jul 23, 2007 Updated: Feb 20, 2009Sampled at the Kitchener Craft Beer show. Pours a nice amberish colour. Not much aroma, mostly hops. The taste is a nice blend of some sharp tasty hops, and some sweet bready malts. Very enjoyable over all. BIT OF A RE-RATE: Same as above, but I swear this stuff gets exponentially better every time I have it. Such an awesome British malt body behind this one with a perfect hop presence to add amazing balance. Incredibly sessionable and probably one the best all-around OCB brews out there right now. Delicious stuff. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Dec 9, 2008 on tap at the catle on king. first of al let me start by saying EPA’s are under-rated all-around. very hop driven nose with english pale malts as a spine. hop driven flavour with english pale malts holding things together. if you have ever been served a proper pint of this elixer you know how good it can be. thx to f&m for making this beer availible. A BIG THX TO THE CASTLE ON KING FOR PROVIDING A FRESH SAMPLE OF THIS BREW!! MeisterEckart (18), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Feb 24, 2003 A big beer with lots of malt character and hops to balance. Fruity/caramel aroma foreshadows the slighlty sweet malts in the body. Hop bitterness comes at the end to clean the palate for the next mouthfull. Although I've had it cask-conditioned, I think I prefer it from the bottle. JohnBarleycorn (390), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 3, 2005 An interesting-looking pale ale, featuring red and orange highlights. Earthy nose and a nice, full, chalky mouthfeel. Earthy flavour profile as well. Excellent bitter hold, with an exceptionally long, savoury finish. A very nice pale ale. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 18, 2004 Dry Hopped cask @ Winking Judge in Hamilton, ON
Inviting sweet nose - light grassiness & citrus, nice malt. Hops are very well balanced with a strawberry-esque malt. Good stuff. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 10, 2004 Updated: Aug 21, 2009Bottle direct from Maclean’s Ales. Looks fantastic - fiery orange, lots of streaming bubbles, creamy thick white head. Malty, hop aroma - very fruity. Taste is excellent - great fruity malt with noticeable hops and a very refreshing medium body. Very very fresh. I’ve had this on tap recently fresh as well and it has been excellent - a very nice little comeback.
Cask at Blue Meaney. Amber Orange Colour, slightly fruity aroma. Good balance between caramel malts and slightly fruity taste. Moderately bitter finish. Enjoyable. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada Apr 24, 2002 Amber color. Malty, light hop aroma. Hops really kick in in the palate - piney hop taste, semi sweet malty body. Great, long bitter palate. Very nice beer. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Dec 12, 2003 Sparkling clear, copper ale with a medium-sized, off-white head.
The nose is malty with notes of toasted nuts and caramel.
The flavor matches the aroma. Nice hops, but they're overpowered by the wonderful, caramelly malt and yeast. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, malty finish. Underrated!
