The aroma is subtle mix of malt, hops, yeast and spices with tones of bread, a touch of caramel, light grain, flowers, mild citrus/oranges, mild resin, cumin, cardamom, oven baked red apples with white sugar and cinnamon and grass. The flavour is rather cardamom spicy and yeasty with a light malty backbone and hints of floral/woody hops. The mouthfeel is not super clean, bit numbing from the spices and light dry in the finish. Hops and spices lingers. Light sweet and medium light bitter. Light to medium bodied. TheGrandMaster (1872), Auckland, New Zealand

A dry hoppy aroma with some sweet fruit, but slightly metallic. A sweetish malt palate, dry and a short finish that leaves a metallic aftertaste. Didn’t hit the right notes with me. It’s named the Log Burner WInter Ale. Orange colored brew. Fruity and malty. It’s a try for a saison, but with no succes. Drinkable though. kempicus (350), Wellington, New Zealand

A combination of wet socks and toe jam on the nose, no palate to speak of and then a similar flavour to the nose, need i say more....I’m gonna have to say "what were they thinking"? Redeeming features….it’s wet. I took it back to the bar and just left it there. beerledgend (919), Waterloo, Wellington, New Zealand

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Aug 19, 2007 Bottle. Not bad. Better than I expected given feedback from other drinkers. Perhaps it’s a new batch? Poured a burnished gold with a soft off-white head which faded fairly quickly. A quite "Belgian" aroma, with spicy and bready notes dominant. Quite authentic in that regard. Sadly it was downhill from there. Perfectly pleasant, though undemanding on the palate, with caramel, cardamom, and fresh bread melding together in an uninspiring whole. I’d drink it again, and like most Mac’s beers, it’s perfectly acceptable, but one can’t help but feel it could be so much better. More attention to style would be good. It’s not really a Saison.
