sdriessen (203), Dunedin, New Zealand Feb 1, 2009 Pours a dark amber with an off-white head.
Quite a hoppy, orange citrus nose.
Flavours are very malty, but with a strong hop bitterness all the way through.
Strong toffee presence. Quite fruity as well (raspberry and apple). Finishes dry with relatively strong hops.
Clean, flavoursome, and very easy drinking. My favourite Mac’s so far. Choos (504), Taylors Hill, Australia Jan 31, 2009 Aroma: fresh hop caramel and crystal malt. Appearance: red with a smallish just off white head. Flavour: hint of chocolate with a nice balanced hop overtone and plenty or malt. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Jan 5, 2009 On tap 01.05.09. Amber ruby, off white head. Aroma is malty & hoppy. Flavor is the same with caramel. A decent and smooth bitter blend, on the light side. kiwibt (51), , New Zealand Oct 31, 2008 Aroma of citrus with a crystal malt background. Red/Coppery in colour with meduim head retention and carbonation.
Flavour is sweet nz saaz hops with a astringent malt background.
Not a bad beer but hop profile is to sickly sweet and malt astringency doesnt work for me. HugoPotomus (8), New Zealand does not count Jun 26, 2008 Mcs used to be the best in the country. Now they have optimised the beers (for profit) and closed the original brewery, though they still claim to be "Nelson Based". This beer is still pretty good compared to whats available in most bottle shops, compared to Montieths the Macs brand has lost less flavour and tastes less macro. Not very bitter but well balanced the Saaz and toasty malt work well together to create something that lets you know its beer. RichardGretton (3131), Leicestershire, England Apr 4, 2008 Draught at Macs Brewbar, Wellington, New Zealand. Reddish brown beer with a malty and lightly roasted aroma. The flavour is well hopped and toffee. Overall a reasonable hopped and bitter beer. Plimmer (251), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 23, 2008 Bottle 33cl. Clear amber colored body with a dense white head. Fruit and malt in the nose. Caramel and roasted malt in flavour. Nice beer. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 7, 2008 (Bottle 33 cl) Clear, amber golden with a creamy, off-white head leaving some lacing. Fresh, citrusy nose. A little thin in the body with flavours of caramel and nuts, but never sweet. Dry finish with a light touch of hops. Very well made actually. 290108
