Unexpedly sweet aroma of lightly roasted malt, brown sugar and cirtus. Nicely balanced sweet flavor with plenty of malt, vanilla, grapefruit, apricots and some hop bitterness. Oily but still clean on the palate and in the finish. A nice surprise and a beer I’d happily pour again. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

This has to be hands down the best smelling amber ale I’ve ever had. Pours a mostly transparent amber with an off-white head that diminishes somewhat quickly. Flavor is light caramel up front with a banana bread and light hop finish. One of the better amber ales out there. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 9, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Cost Plus in La Jolla, CA) A medium bodied amber ale with a mildly bready, toasty and sweet maltiness that is nicely balanced by a fresh tasting and moderately bitter hoppiness. The balanced flavor stays pretty much consistent right through to the finish. Overall, the flavor has a tea-like character. The nose is also well balanced between malt and hops. Head has average retention, but sticks to the glass; Orange amber color and rather hazy in appearance. Off-white head pours to an average size, and eventually settles to a thin layer, leaving plenty of ringed and patchy lace behind. I was expecting mediocrity, but I think this is a tick above average as far as amber ales go. Not a bad beer to have around for when you just want a pleasant tasting beer you don’t plan to savor. That is the word I will use when considering to buy it again. "No." Too sour and mashy tasting. Nice appearancy, for what that is worth.
