Fruit and straw aroma; small head. Dark brown color. Not a big body but decent flavors of cocoa, dark roasted malts, oatmeal. Light and creamy with a little dark malt flavor.

Appearance is pretty good, a head that doesn’t completely disappear with a good lacing. The crisp black color is nice. Smell is light, but sour with a slight backround of coffee. Taste is of black coffee and little else. Mouthfeel is very smooth, good. I could wait to have this fresh, but I would still be wary of it.

Poured with a fair to diminishing head. Flavor was bitter up front with a nice finish. Will try again.

Aroma: roasty with notes of vanilla, cocoa, and maple syrup. Taste: charred grain, nutty, spicy hop, slight citrus. Mouthfeel: velvety and tongue coating bit with a slight carbonation spritz. Overall: Based on what i have had from this brewery in the past, this was surprisingly decent.

Pours dark with a thin to medium head but the bubbles are bit big. the nose is weak to zero. taste is thin, it’s bitter but there’s nothing behind the bitterness, no roast, no chocolates, no coffees. bleh.

Poured into a shaker pint with a very thin head. Deep red-brown in color. Good coffee scent. Expected a little more from the taste. Rather light in flavor. Makes me think of weak oatmeal stout. Not a lot of body to this beer. It’s certainly not a bad beer, but just average. The flavor just doesn’t live up to the expectations given by the smell.

Tasted at Pyramid’s Berkeley brewpub as a taster set w/5 other beers. Clearly the least favored by all of the tasters. Looked like Coca Cola. Smelled strongly of instant coffee. Highly carbonated, mineral-water mouthfeel. Tasted slightly off-first sour, then watery, then finished w/ an abrupt dry hops astringency.
