A little bit of dark malt flavors pop up, but not much. No sweetness, nor bitterness. No hops. Just a really watery beer. The strongest flavor is something I can’t place. It may be wet cardboard as robertsreality said, but I’m not exactly familiar with that flavor (or oxidation). Whatever it is, it should not be the strongest flavor in any beer. paulmetzger (152), Pocatello, Idaho, USA

Starts bitter, then becomes sweet with chocolate and fruit, then finishes smooth. a10555 (125), West Chester, Ohio, USA

This one has a great color, great taste and smooth finish. I was worried when I moved away from Oregon that I wouldn’t find this again. Thank God for good distributors. Even named my dog after this one, akc registered Mactarnahn Blackwatch. Tmoney99 (4745), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Bottle. Poured black with an average creamy light brown head that diminished slowly and produced good lacing. Moderate roasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Moderate sweet roasted malt flavor with an average finish. Good brew. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA

A nice buttery flavor complements the scent and an overall outstanding brew. I really can’t complain about anything in the bottle. Even the name is kinda cool." | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 20, 2006 Dark brown pour with very little head that went away quickly. Aroma was of raisins and caramel with a slight hint of vanilla. Went down smooth with the taste of roasted malt and a hint of chocolate. More chocolate flavor came through as it warmed up. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 18, 2006 Dark brown pour with no head to speak of. Unremakable aroma; roasty malts, caramel and vanilla sweets. The taste is very smooth. The oatmeal and roasted malts are nicely balanced up front, but the beer then moves into a sour, dull finish. Its okay, but I won’t buy it again. Wiseblood (658), Clarksville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 12, 2006 Dark brown with some red edges and a small brown head. Smells of mostly roasted malts, but also some creamy sweetness and maybe vanilla. More flavors of roasted malts were apparent, as well as some molasses and sugary coffee. Some bitterness and acidity, but not enought to distract. Light, but complex.
