| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2005 Thanks to Buck Dich for this one. Pours obsidian (only the slightest trace of ruby showing through) with medium splotchy tan head. Aroma of gigantic chocoff, corn flakes, black licorice, nuts, some spirits. 9 for aroma complexity and depth. Tastes malty, chocoffy, with more nuts and corn flakes in the finish. The palate is indeed a tad watery, but that causes only a slight deduction here. Smooth, complex finish, with a finishing oaty, semi-rauchy element. Me likey likey. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Feb 12, 2005 Updated: May 11, 2007Poured a very dark brown. Sweet aroma, caramel malts and vanilla. The body of this is so dark, the light form the computer screen will not penetrate this one. Creamy tan had, smallish but clinging to the side of the glass. The taste has a big malt presence, but not over done. There is a creaminess to this, as I drank this I had warm fuzzy feelings. The mouth feel is almost full, but not quite, it just drops off at the very last second. The bitter after taste is like coffee, bitter but not unpleasant. I really enjoyed this, and I must thank Rich for this one. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Feb 7, 2005 Very pleasant aroma, some caramel tones, and the malts are there, but not overdone. Black is the appropriate name for this beer as it relates to its appearance...it might be the darkest beer I have had, head is very thin, tan, and just rings the sides of the glass. Flavor is very complex, the malts come out early, then the cream aspects work in, giving a very velvety mouthfeel and a sweet taste. The aftertaste is only slightly bitter, but not at all unpleasant. The only knock I have on this is that the body is a bit thin for my porter preferences, but considering I just grabbed a bottle of this without knowing anything about it, I was quite pleased. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 31, 2005 Dark roasted color. Very little head. Great coffee and dark chocolate flavor. I agree with the comment of dried plums. Roasty and creamy. Good, solid porter. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 29, 2005 Burgundy brown body with a tight tan head that fades. Aroma of unsweetened chocolate and roasted nuts. Flavor of chocolate and dried plums with some roast and medium, fruity acidity. Medium, creamy mouthfeel. Has some highlights, but overall this is a very standard porter.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 24, 2005 Bottle. Dark almost opaque body with a dense one-finger head. Notes of light smoke, wood, toffee, and aroma hops come out. An average, middle of the road porter, Not bad, but not particularly special. frylock (1026), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 15, 2005 Dark ruby brown with a small tan head. Rasty, coffee, and licorice aroma. Light sweetness, cocoa and coffee both come through. Good amount of licorice flavor as well. Not very creamy, as the name would suggest. Pretty average porter.
