| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 19, 2004 Very dark brown, nearly black in color, and absolutely opaque. Head is brown, initially large, but quickly falls to nothingness. Milk chocolate aroma is lightly roasty with subtle muskiness. I was beginning to think that I was going to have a great beer, but then the flavor component threw a wrench into the system. Very weak flavor, with very light roastiness and sweet chocolate. How can this be bland? Thin and watery on the palate with a disappointingly light finish. Wet cardboard aftertaste. Disappointing with a capital D. bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2004 on tap: when i saw this tap handle i got quite excited however that excitement calmed down quite quickly once the pint hit my hand. served really cold, too cold. nice black brown color with tan bubbles that were gone by the time it got to me. nose of choc malt, smoked. palate goes the same way coffee toffee flavors that are quite mellow and nothing really stands out or wants attention. the barrel aged version is a million times better. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 12, 2004 Pours black with a thin head. Aroma is nice roastedness with a slight sweetness. Flavor is pretty deeply roasted for a porter. Most of the bitterness is from the burn malt. a slight sweetness tries to play against the roastedness but isn’t quite strong enough. This is definately a lot better in the barrel aged version. OD40oz (603), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | May 11, 2004 Dark as hell with a creamy head. This stuff was bad ass. I liked it about as much as Anchor Porter. rudolf (1786), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 10, 2004 Very dark, nearly burnt malt nose. Slightly astringent with coffee and bitter chocolate. Flavor is Sweet but burnt. Cream finish but that doesn’t make up for the burnt flavor. Kevin (1920), Colorado, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 5, 2004 Smoked choco-coffee aroma with a pour that is mostly opaque deep mahogany/brown color with a quickly dissipating off white head. Very smokey porter. Lots of bitter black chocolate and coffee at the end. Decent. leon919 (10), San Jose, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2004 Very nice going into the glass, very bitter aroma of coffee. But the flavor just sit’s there. No dancing in the mouth for this beer.
