Commercial Description:
Once again MacTarnahan's redefines "smooth". Striking a perfect balance between the classic Northwest and Celtic styles, Blackwatch is a remarkably distintive new style of porter. With expert use of malted barley, unmalted grains and oatmeal, Blackwatch Cream Porter delivers unforgettable rich taste and smooth texture.

Bitter chocolate and slight alcohol in the nose. Deep ruby color. Slight caramel head. Flavor of vanilla, bitter chocolate and slight bitterness. Minimal creamy mouthfeel however watery and thin. Decent porter.

Rather mild porter that has surprisingly little flavor; On the watery side, this porter has significantly less body than typical porters; The dark roasted flavor and bitterness are closer to style, but a bit light as well, and the finish is very weak; The nose is faintly sweet and chocolatey; Very dark brown and nearly opaque; Tan head is fairly small on the pour, disappears quickly, and doesn't leave even a trace of lacing

A smooth, easy to drink porter. Nice notes of malt and slight roasted flavor that we all look for in porters. Overall, fairly light.

Dark Brown w/some nice red/ruby highlights, but the beige head doesn't last long. Black patent and a "dry malted barley" aroma at first. Chocolatey and caramel as it warms to lightly roasty and toasty w/ very little fruitiness. very well balanced and lightly tart from dark grains; lightly roasty flavor in the finish but not much up front, light chocolate w/ some hints of vanilla in the very finish. More fruity esters in flavor than in aroma w/ a dry finish and has a light roast and black malt aftertaste. Slightly prickly on the tongue, but smooths out after the initial bite, moderate carbonation and medium body. Overally a very good beer, but malt character is a little thin up front. I'd have this one again in a heartbeat should I be able to find it again.

I really love this beer! The wonderfully distinct coffee aftertaste keeps me happy long after I finish the glass.

This one continues to impress me. Light coffee and cream aroma. Smooth coffee, caramel, toast and slight hop bite in the flavor. So smooth and easy to relax with, nad cheap to boot.

Bottle: Opaque brown with small head or creamy fine bubbles that faded quickly leaving a bi of lace. roast malt nose prominent with minimal hopping (OK by ABA style). Creamy full mouthfeel with a smooth, malt taste of chocolate malt, some roasted malt. Mounthfeel like an oatmeal stout--like drinking melted icecream for consistency. Virtually no hop character in aroma or in taste; this is the sort of porter that appeals to the novice microdrinker, but it's interesting enough to offer something to the more sophisticated beer drinker as well. A very nice session dark, as Austinpowers put it.
