| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 28, 2003 This brew poured a small head of finely sized brown colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a xxxx lacing and a opaque dark black brown colored body with no visible carbonation. It has a strong malt aroma with a medium coffee overtone to it and a tingly mouthfeel as it goes down oh so smoothly. Its flavor is mildly coffeed and it is more like a stout than a porter and the label calls it. It is smooth enough to be called creamy though. jgb9348 (2502), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 26, 2003 Dark brown colour, almost black with a ruby coloured tint when held directly to a light. A decently dense thick tan head forms and lasts for a bit, but not too long. Fairly light aroma, dominated (with what there is:) by chocolate, coffee and sweeter malts. Light-Medium-bodied; Chocolatey taste with some sweetness and vanilla creeping in the taste along with the ever present coffee-bitterness. The aftertaste is almost overwhelmed with the coffee, but very pleasantly, especially respectable for the style. Overall, better than what I was expecting from this brewery, and a pretty average Porter. I shared this 12 ounce bottle with good friend Jon (JonR888710) at the Brickskeller in Washington, D.C. on 26-August-2003. bac080 (398), Boardman, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 10, 2003 Mine says "scottish style" on the bottle but I couldn't find any scottish influence. This was an enjoyable porter that reminded me of a cream stout. I hope I can find this again. BBB63 (4232), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 10, 2003 Very dark and produces a large creamy off-white head and good lace. Aroma hints of espresso, semi-sweet chocolate, spice, and toasted malts. Reminds me of an old fashioned Chocolate malt with a dash of cinnamon on top. The flavors are almost identical to the aroma, cafe mocha. Lingering bitterness on finish. One smooth porter, this is. Quaffable for the masses, yet just complex enough for us beergeeks. Wish I had more, but when in the heck would I find time to drink it? Love to try the Bourbon barrel version...anyone? GreatStelle (360), Chico, California, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 27, 2003 I sampled a bomber of the 2003 bourbon barrel aged Black Watch.
Appearance: This brew pours black w/ orangish-red bricking. The head was tan & tightly bubbled. It quickly disappeared
Aroma: You can definitely smell the bourbon barrel and some vanilla.
Flavor: I tasted creamy vanilla with some roasted notes.
The body of this brew is pretty light for a porter. However, it is extremely drinkable and has a lot of nice complexity to it.
