Pours pitch black with a very nice head that lasts the whole glass leaving a decent lace.
Aroma is smooth malt and chocolate, with a bit of the bourbon coming through and perhaps a hint of butterscotch?
Taste is similar to the aroma, but you can definately sense the bourbon. It's sweeter than typical porters. It definately becomes more complex as it warms.
Mouthfeel is full, smooth, and rich, with a bit of mineral mouthfeel. Overall, this is definately worth seeking out.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 20, 2004 Updated: Feb 21, 2004The nose is sweet and chocolatey with a definite aroma like other bourbon casked beers, and creates much anticipation to taste the beer; Unfortunately, the flavor doesn't come close to living up to the expectations created by the nose; The sweet, bourbon cask flavor is quite prevalent from start to finish, but the underlying flavor is moderately sour, and certainly lacks a quality dark roasted maltiness; The maltiness is in fact rather on the thin side though a mild smokiness does come out in the finish; Moderately bitter, and there really doesn't seem to be more than a mild infusion of hops into this beer; Excessive head on the pour is very bubbly, with a creamy layer on top; Retention is fair, but that big, bubbly head dies down fairly quickly, leaving only the top, creamy layer; Quite a bit of lacing is left on the glass; The sourness does suggest this beer deserves a second chance... | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 17, 2004 Dark brown with a dense light tan head. Aromas of butterscotch, cocoa, mild coffee, and touch of peat. Very rich and sweet in the nose. Starts thick and slippery but the body thins out after. Bourbon is present throughout the quaff. Lots of malt sweetness mid taste and the darker malts seem to be lost. Some wintergreen and vanilla late in the linger. Flavors do not embrace all the aromas. A decent brew. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 13, 2004 Dark black color, nice creamy off-white head that leaves a sticky lacing in my glass, roasty chocolate-coffee aromas. Roasted burnt chocolate coffee flavors, nice bitter-sweet flavors, good roasted bitterness in the finish. Medium body with a semi watery mouthfeel, not all bad. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 13, 2004 Big chocolate and vanilla flavors come right through. Bourbon flavor is also prominant, with a light spice finish. Very tasty. GreatStelle (360), Chico, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 8, 2004 This beer is overrated. It poured dark and cloudy with red tints and formed a small but solid head of froth..extremely creamy butterscotch and caramel aroma, like snorting straight up caramal...intense really..but its downhill from there..caramelly flavors with a creamy like flavor but not a creamy like mouthfeel unfortunately, because the mouthfeel was thin, watery, and unsatisfying...there was some coffee w/ cream notes along with the caramel but the weak mouthfeel makes this, well weak overall. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 8, 2004 Dark black, with a solid thick brown eggshell white head. Aroma of fertilizer and maybe some plastic chocolates. Weird flavor to say the least, tastes like plastic with a hint of chocolate. Where is the fucking bourbon? Just another money gimic, fuck the aroma and body are good, so if only it tasted good, this would be legit.
