Nose of mainly vanilla, along with toffee, caramel, coffee beans, dark cherries and infused bouron.
Dry and woody, very thin body, along with notes of vanilla, chocolate and dark fruits and finishes with a lingering taste of bourbon.
This was okay. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Aug 27, 2004 22 oz bottle. Gorgeous pour, Guinness-like at first but huge bubble action dominates quickly and the lovely caramellish head dies away...aroma is robust, slightly vanilla-inflected, pleasant but nothing commanding attention. On the tongue, awesomely smooth and silky, something you could drink all day, a lovely mix of the sweet and vanilla-chocolaty with the harsher coffee robustness that stings the nose. A bit of wine mid-to-late-palate...it’s all good. jaymobrown (1360), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 25, 2004 Creamy. Sweet. A bit of malt flavors. Nothing really "bourbon" about this. Let alone any cask-aged flavors. Less than average texture. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Aug 24, 2004 2003 bottle. Black without any head to speak of. Creamy, but quite tasteless. I was expecting big flavors, but instead got hints of coffee and the slightest smoke flavor. Extremely thin and watery. Boring. Cheapest Bourbon aged beer in the world, at $3 a 22oz bottle!!! mreeves (257), Sammamish, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2004 A very dark porter, with minimal head and carbonation. Bourbon and oak come through in the aroma. Thick and chewy and the oak is quite evident in the flavor as well. Seems a bit overrated, in my opinion. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 10, 2004 This beer poured a black color with a soapy tanned head which didnt seem to last all too long. The aroma was heavy coffee, vanilla, cocoa, bourbon wood and caskey chocolate. Man I enjoy making up words when i rate. The flavor is heavily chocolatey and slightly woody with a milky stout like approach. You can taste some of the aging, and hint of the bourbon, but mainly its dry chocolate and a hint of sweet vanilla. It was strange, i mean this was a great brew, but I honestly expected so much more. 5000 (2579), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2004 Bottle pours black with deep red hues, medium fluffy tannish colored head that settles to a small layer of bubbles, with semi-sticky lacing. WOW, aroma is full of goodies... chalky semi-sweet chocolate, oak, vanilla, bourbon, and butter. First noted when sipping would be the oaken imparted flavor, followed by slight whiskey/bourbon flair, proceeded then by roasted malts, hops, with light semi-sweet chocolate . Comparing this one to the Full Sail Bourbon Porter I find this one less aggressive and more palatable. Full bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with more butter, coffee notes, chocolate, and a subtle hop hint. This is one fantastic brew! It needs to be re-brewed!!! Thanks goes out to CaptainCougar for the trade!
