Unless an APA does something truly exceptional, it starts to blend into the mushy sponge of my overused memory banks. This one wont so rapidly fade, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. It has a decent, peculiar, organic, weedy nose that comes together somewhat awkwardly, composting with the sweet edged malt. dberger624 (1028), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA

Appearance was kind of plain, but the aroma and the taste are exceptional. Not my favorite, but a very good change when you are looking for something that is not your usual. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 16, 2002 Large-bubbled head fades quickly. Thin-bodied mouthfeel with a light, hay-like malt flavor. Has a soft sweetness and a gentle hop aroma that is somewhat enjoyable. Not overly charismatic, but enjoyable and non-disturbing. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2002 Tasted as Portland Pale Ale and Kornhaust Oast Ale.Light golden color, medium head. Medium hopped, slightly malty ale. As an oast ale, the brew masters add an amount of distilled hop oil to the beer. Similar to, but not exactly like Portland Pale Oast Ale. A mild ale, with a aromatic hop aroma. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is very hoppy, yet not bitter. VENOM (941), Connecticut, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 30, 2002 Mostly clear golden straw. Thin, white, frothy edge head. Specks of carbonation. Aroma of husky pale malts and fresh, oily, earthy hops. Mellow body, toasty sweet malts and an oily hop flavor. Earthy and pungent. Medium light body. Bland aftertaste. One dimensional character with no real integration of flavors. Finishes grassy, still slick and with dry popcorn malts. Strange. AxeMaster221 (343), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2002 Was pleasantly surprised by this. Poured like most scotch ales...lots of malt aroma...but some hops too. probably from the hop oil....and yes a whiff of heather. It is the heather that makes the taste of this beer so nice...very pleasant and different from so many of the American scotch ale pretenders....I found this a very enjoyable beer.
