Commercial Description:
Mac Frost is a big, rich beer in the tradition of English strong ales. We begin with pale and Munich malt along with three varieties of caramel malt for gusto and big, creamy flavor. For balance we add Northern Brewer hops for bitterness and East Kent Goldings for aroma. We take it even further in the finish by dry-hopping Mac Frost with Oregon’s own Willamette hops and English Colthup Goldings. The result is tantalizing; a big beer that delivers with savory malts and complex, lingering hop spice on the tongue and in the nose. This beer will complement your holiday cheer like no other.

2003. This beer had a small sized tan head that was creamy and smooth with fine-medium sized bubbles that was mostly diminishing. The body consisted of lively carbonation, transparent with a ruby hue. The nose was malty, caramel, sweet and some spice notes. The flavor was sweet, malty, caramel and alcohol with a lingering aftertaste to it. The mouthfeel was fizzy on the tongue, dry and this was a medium bodied beer with fair lacing.

2003 bottle. This brew poured a medium sized head of foamy light brown colored fine to medium sized mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a fair lace and a carbonated transparent brown colored body. THe aroma contained notes of roasted caramel and malts. THe mouthfeel was tingly and vinuous with a lingering hop finish. THe flavor was also vinuous with malt and roasted caramel notes.

Draft. Strong vanila aroma. Ruby amber color. Flavor of malt and spice with the malt lingering.

Aroma of caramel malt and hops. Flavor is the same. The hops are perhaps alittle to predominate and don't let the malt shine through as the name would suggest. There is a slight grassyness in the flavor as the beer warms. Its is good but not great.

Very nice, sparkling clear, ruby/copper ale. Very small, creamy, off-white head. The nose is of alcohol and cocoa. Well-balanced flavor. Decently-bittered with some toffee, alcohol and chocolate notes. Medium-bodied with a dry mouthfeel. Crisp, clean, dry finish. Good brew!

The spicy aroma makes you think Christmas. It has a rich, toffee flavor that has decent hopping, but finishes with a weaker maltiness. It is not the best Northwest winter ale, but it is still a tasty brew.

A decent hop aroma is quickly chased away by caramel/roast malt notes. Beer is extremely astringent, and the strong malt and hop notes clash more than they meld.

Sweet, grainy caramel malt aroma, a dash of earthy hop spice and roastiness. Medium-dark copper color, clear, with an uneven, lightly creamy head. Spicy and hoppy to start, medium bitterness, with a very lightly sweet, bready, toffeeish finish, perhaps a hint of chocolate. Mouthfeel is on the thin side and slightly fizzy, body is medium. Really not too bad, the bitterness is borderline metallic, though.
