Commercial Description:
Mac Frost is a big, rich beer in the tradition of English strong ales. We begin with pale and Munich malt along with three varieties of caramel malt for gusto and big, creamy flavor. For balance we add Northern Brewer hops for bitterness and East Kent Goldings for aroma. We take it even further in the finish by dry-hopping Mac Frost with Oregon’s own Willamette hops and English Colthup Goldings. The result is tantalizing; a big beer that delivers with savory malts and complex, lingering hop spice on the tongue and in the nose. This beer will complement your holiday cheer like no other.

Appealing garnet color, med creamy head. Plenty of caramelized flavors, with just enough hops for balance. A "dark" flavor. Decent enough cold weather beer.

Nice dark color. Very spicey amd at the same time floral. Some caramel flavor and toffee. This is an average winter brew.

A hazy, murky copper color with virtually no head. The aroma is fairly mild. Light spices, a touch of fruitiness and decent malts. The body is fairly thin and unremarkable. The flavor doesn't really have a whole lot going on, either. Somewhat spicier and noticably sweeter. The alcohol is also quite present. I was not overly impressed by this one but I'm glad I was able to give it a shot.

Dark mahogany and clear with a yellowish / light-tan head. Yeasty nose, almost musty in a way. Texture was assertive with a lively carbonation. At first it seemed really light, but then it became silky and rather fluffy. Malts were sticky-sweet and sugary, with notes of brown sugar and vanilla. Spicy hops were in the background. Faint woody notes. Zingy, sour bitterness tries to tame the sweetness, but not quite. Still, pretty decent winter ale.

2003: Clear brown/dark oarnge. Fizzy, khaki, head. Quite lasting. Yeasty, estery aromas in the forefront. Some toffee, toast, and floral hops. Mouthfeel is soft, borderline watery. Empty up front, except slight esters. Somewhat sweet and fruity before the finish. Finish is malty, with a nice bitterness. Well worth a try.

2003 - Sparkling clear ruby with a frothy tan head. Aroma is spicy caramel with an earthy malt backing. The flavor is big malt with a wallop of hops, somewhat unexpected. The flavor is less caramel then the aroma but more fruit comes out then the aroma leads onto. The body is medium full and dry. The flavors develop very nicely in the aftertaste. Quite a good beer.

2003: Crystal clear rye. Creamy, light almond foam ring. Clean dark bready malt aroma paired with plums, dark honey, and minerals. Beautiful woody, leathery undertones with an assertive spicy hop knack. Lightly airy and mellow, but complex. Gentle carbonation. Silky, fairly light body. Gently tangy hop front, followed by a metallic and lightly acidic tingle. Very clean in the center with an array of plummy malts and a firm, yet light hop presence. Clean, warm ending with that continual round leafy, herbal hop accent alongside a bit of lemon rind and a long crystal malt richness. Substantial green bitters with some whispers of biscuity malts in there, as well. Dark fruity esters stand up really well to the healthy malt richness. It's more of an Old Ale than anything else. Elegant tasting round noble hop belches, to boot. Refreshing and fulfilling Christmas brew.
