Commercial Description:
Mac Frost is a big, rich beer in the tradition of English strong ales. We begin with pale and Munich malt along with three varieties of caramel malt for gusto and big, creamy flavor. For balance we add Northern Brewer hops for bitterness and East Kent Goldings for aroma. We take it even further in the finish by dry-hopping Mac Frost with Oregon’s own Willamette hops and English Colthup Goldings. The result is tantalizing; a big beer that delivers with savory malts and complex, lingering hop spice on the tongue and in the nose. This beer will complement your holiday cheer like no other.

color is deep amber, with a thick beige head. aroma is malt, nutmeg and juicy fruit gum and just the tiniest hint of alcohol (somewhat surprising for such a low-alcohol beer). flavor is mainly bubble gum with a wheat beer taste. definitely a winter warmer. seems very unbalanced to me...something just isnt right.

I think of this beer as ordering a pizza and getting a bowl of spagheti. Though spaghetti is just as appetizing as pizza, it's not what I ordered. Getting to the point, this wasn't what I expected for a winter ale. Very little (to no) evidence of spices/fruits/caramel/ chocolate or anything else that makes a winter brew a winter brew. Again, this wasn't a "bad" beer, it just wasn't what I expect or wanted at the time.

Not too much I can say here that the commercial description does not. Other than it was hearty and tastey, kind of syrupy with a slight taste of alchohol. I prefer the Sam Adams Winter, but this was good for a change.

Medium brown color. Small quickly disappearing head. Aroma is very faint, but it a mix of malts, yeasts and fruit.A medium bodied ale. Malts are slightly sweet and a little fruity. Hops are mild. Fairly sweet and somewhat fruity, with all the usual winter ale spices. Hints of vanilla. Really lacking in any carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

I am not much of a fan of winter brews, but this one has some great hopping that balances the sweet malts. Warms you like brandy when it goes down.

Big, but not huge or gorgeous, malt and yeast action - the spiciness aims in toward zesty wheat brew flavors, but the malt is more mundane and the limp evergreeny hops difinitley hide in the corners. Decent, but for some reason I was anticipating more and got less.

Right off the bat I got bubblegum in the aroma. The aroma was filled with malt, sugar, a little clove, and spice...similar to a Belgian ale. The flavor was sweet sweet sweet...good...maltiness prevailed. Nice hazy brown color with a tight head. Warming.

Nothing to exciting with this one. While not a flavor powerhouse, it is decent. Pours out to a brownish, amber in the glass with slight yeast nose. Taste is that of an amber cross-bred with a wheat, but neither taking the dominant role. Different than I expected for a winter offering.
