Its actually kinda of sweet with not a bitter kick in the mouth. The oak was hard to detect under my radar but it was there. Palate is smooth with hints of caramel and pepper. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2004 Bottle. Very slight hoppy nose. Not bitter at all. Very good balance of malt and hop. Personaly I would like this to be a lttle more hoppy, but it is ok. I don’t tatse any oak notes in this at all. Clena crisp finish. Overall good, but nothing blows your hair back. screigh (260), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 21, 2004 Poured a big white head. Nice hop aroma. Clear copper color. I ididn’t get any oak character but a friend said it tasted like he was drinking wood. Decent beer. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2004 Copper/orange color with a generous off-white head. Aroma seems to be dominated by the sweet crystal malts, but some nice oaky notes come through as well. The hops are there too, but seem a bit restrained. Initial flavor is on the sweet side, quickly followed by some mild spicey hops. Didn’t seem to detect any wood notes on the palate. Mothfeel was a bit thin, but carbonation level was refreshing. Finished crisp with mild hop bitterness.
Not great, but a good all ’round IPA> wunderbier (1267), Tampere, Finland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2004 12 oz bottle, snifter. Caramel, bread malt (M); herb, perfume hops (M); cask wood, pepper, white grape aromas. Aroma of very fresh, spicy hops. Deep amber-orange body with an average, creamy, white head that lasts. Moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter flavor becomes a moderately acidic, moderately bitter finish. Medium body, watery/creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: great fresh hops aroma/taste is the story here. mdi (573), Nebraska, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 16, 2004 12oz bottle no BD Pours w/ nice head, good lace. Aromatic, mostly sweet malts...I can’t find but a trace of hop spice in there, a highlight I guess...also has a sort of fresh cut lumber undertone, but I’m searching for that. Somewhat odd palate... Malty, good hop bitterness, not oaky in any manner I’m accustomed to, its more of an odd lingering flavor. Clunky, clumsy beer. Its OK, not a great PNW IPA by any means...as far as traditional English? If this is it, I’m glad I live now. kbjames (242), Utah, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 10, 2004 This is a pretty decent IPA, I was surprised with this beer. Lots of hoppiness to it, nice on the nose. The attack and follow thru were standard, but not a bad beer at all. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA
