Aroma is Cascade hops, malt, and some sweetness. Flavor is the same -- very nice hops! Some malt and smooth bitter finish very masterfully balanced to my hophead taste. Will definitely become one of my favorites. One easily leads to another. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 6, 2003 Pours a nice amber red with little head. Has a pleasant hoppy aroma with some candy. Caramel and hops were present in the flavor and a pleasant hint of oak in the after taste. Nice lacing. A very pleasing IPA. garrison (459), Cin. city, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 24, 2003 Aieee, it's a hopdevil!
This is actually a very good beer, but it's lack of richness and body made it miss the mark as a great beer for me. However, it's initial spicy hop rush makes this beer very tasty indeed! EKGoldings (447), Radford, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 20, 2003 Bottle, poured into glass and allowed to warm up. Pours amber, light head and carbonation. Slight aroma of malt and hops. Taste is smooth with citrusy hop, some malt taste balanced with the bitterness. A bit more complex as the beer warms up with tea, smoke and caramel. British oak does not impart a "striking oak flavor", oak was selected to have a neutral effect on flavor. "Additionally, only English, German, and Polish oak do not impart flavor to the beer. American oak, in contrast, is unsuitable, since the beer will leach out various undesirable flavors from it" T. Foster in "Pale Ale". I don't get much oak aroma in this beer either. This is an elegant IPA that you can use as a session beer, it is so drinkable. A very tasty beer :-) BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 14, 2003 They have changed the name of the brew to "IPA Oak Aged", it's the same brew. Amber hue with a large frothy head and excellent lacing. Aroma is very fruity and piney with a large oak undertone. Hints of smoke, spice, and sweat. Nice crisp hop and malt balance, smooth and very English. Bitter and dry finish. The medium to full-bodied beer has a creamy and soft mouthfeel. If you are a fan of the traditional IPA style, you should seek out the beer now! Highly recommended. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 3, 2003 Aroma of light floral hops, not overpowering but generous. A burnt malt, smokey flavor is apparent. Clear auburn color with great lacing and a persistant head. Flavor is very strong with hops, tastes a little more than 45 IBUs. The oak is very apparent and definately smooths out this IPA. It's very mild to today's PNW IPA standards, but it's good. GreatStelle (360), Chico, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 2, 2003 a very average IPA. It is hoppy, but lacks fruity and floral flavors I desire in Ipa's. dhurtubise (568), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 11, 2003 The beer I drank was almost certainly the same as this one under a different label for Florida. It was callded MacTarnahan's IPA and boasted Oak aged. Anyway, it was a light amber colour with average head. No noticeable woodiness. Though it was reasonably hoppy on the nose and in flavour. Not your big amarican IPA, more balanced like a British style, but with american hops.
