Commercial Description:
Editor's Note: Formerly Woodstock IPA, now known as Oak-Aged IPA.

Woodstock IPA is an authentic wood-conditioned India Pale Ale with the distinctive flavor of the British Empire’s original. Traditional IPAs were distinguished by rich hops, which were generously added to preserve the beer during its long overseas voyage between England and India. They were also characterized by striking oak flavor, as the beer made its journey in wooden barrels. Woodstock IPA matures in oak and is dry-hopped during the aging process to bring you the classic style.
Specs: Original Gravity 15.5, Specific Gravity 1062, Hop Bitterness 45 IBU

They now call this MacTarnahans IPA (oak aged), with no mention of the word Woodstock anymore. New bottle design is http://www.macsbeer.com/images/template_right_ipa. Considering how many times Portland Brewing has changed names, bought other companies, or changed titles, it's no suprise they did it again with this one. Smells like soapy gin. I hate gin more than any other liquid in the world. Give me goose sweat and elk piss before gin. This IPA tastes like buttered corn chips and tortillas, with a rancid flavor throughout. Diacetyl? I know it's recognized by a buttery flavor, but that is not dominant in this beer, the gin and corn flavors are dominant. Either way, I must put my low rating in as it may have some effect.

Very nice pour, great IPA head and lace. Good taste, rough around the finish.

Looked an inviting warm amber-orange with a good head. There's a medium hop aroma. It's followed by a very woodsy and earthy hop-malt balance. The oak conditioning is definitely present and well done. I like this beer quite well.

Poured a dark amber color with a small and quickly diminishing off-white head. Hoppy, aroma - floral and citrus with just a bit of butterscotch malt. Flavor begins with a bracing hit of hops, reveals a nice slightly toasted malt middle and then fades quickly to a lingering bitter finish. Mouth feel was nice, medium body with significant carbonation. A good west coast IPA and very drinkable.

poured a copper color with medium sized head. floral hop aroma and taste with some woody like smokiness, nicely balanced, but lacked the hop bite of most ipa's.

Smells like hops, whit little else in the mix. Color is a hazy dark amber, with a small bit of head. Flavor is imediately hopy, but fades from there. Rather disappointing in the IPA department. It gives somewhat of a chalky aftertaste also.

A sunny orange golden colour with a great frothy head that bursts with orangy hops, light banana malt, and lemon rinds. A surprising smokiness dominates the initial flavour, followed by some nice woodiness and finally some very subtle hop bitterness that lingers well. Solid IPA.

Odd, clay-like nose; reddish-amber color; low lathery head. Well, it says oak aged on the bottle and it is woody in the finish, so I guess it is successful in that they achieved what they set out to do. Otherwise, this is not very IPA-like and lacked about 90% of the bitterness one might expect.
