Commercial Description:
Editor's Note: Formerly Woodstock IPA, now known as Oak-Aged IPA.

Woodstock IPA is an authentic wood-conditioned India Pale Ale with the distinctive flavor of the British Empire’s original. Traditional IPAs were distinguished by rich hops, which were generously added to preserve the beer during its long overseas voyage between England and India. They were also characterized by striking oak flavor, as the beer made its journey in wooden barrels. Woodstock IPA matures in oak and is dry-hopped during the aging process to bring you the classic style.
Specs: Original Gravity 15.5, Specific Gravity 1062, Hop Bitterness 45 IBU

Bottle: Almost clear light copper look with a quickly diminishing head. Sweet citrusy hoppy aromas with nice bitter and definitely woody tastes. The aftertaste is pretty mild but hints at some sagebrush. It has a full body that seems to expand in your mouth upon consuming the beverage. Not bad! Thanks Indiana_Red!

Pour is a orange with a soapy looking head. Aroma is a mix mix of hops and caramel malt. Flavor is decent. Some hops and caramel with a hint of citrus. I don’t really get much of the oak age that the bottle tells me i should. Not the best IPA but still tasty and rewarding.

Nice flowery, citrus, aroma, some malts, vanilla. Amber pour, small off-white head. Good flavor, citrusy, nice sweet finish. Ends a little dry. Pretty good, although I was expecting more when I saw an oak-aged IPA.

From the bottle for rating #365.

I have to confess to being a bit surprised at how good this one was. It’s not great, but it’s very drinkable and has a number of nice features. The beer pours clear rich amber with an ample head; the aroma is dusty, grassy hops with some hints of orange peel. The flavor offers a surprising degree of complexity: a nice dry toned-back, almost British-style grassy hoppiness, plenty of pepper, hints of barleywine-like booziness, a bit of vanilla.

I expected to be disappointed. I definitely wasn’t.

12oz squat bottle. Clear and copper colored. Spotty white head. Sweet caramel malt nose. Spicy, piney hop aroma. Citrus aromatic notes as well. Full and lively. Good caramel malt character. Effervescent and tingling. Nice vanilla oak note. Hop character is resinous and citrus. Dry finish. Long and sticky. Quality brew. Woody and zesty!

Pours a clear rusty orange with a creamy off white head. I’m not sure how old this bastard is, but it seems to have more of a barley wine feel to it. The aroma is full of caramelized sugar, rasins, and oats. The flavor hold a decent element of pine with some citrus, but they are perfectly balanced with the sweet caramel malt and rasin presense. Very malty over the tounge for a beer that’s supposed to a bit lighter and more carbonated. It says it’s been "oak-aged", though I didn’t notice much of a barrel aged element to it besides the fact that it migh have taken the punch out of the hops. A pretty good brew, but a weak example of the style.

Looks orange, tastes orange, Underrated beer. I like the balance between the citrus-pine hops and the very subtle malt tendencies at the end. It obviously is not scoring well here, and the only reason I can find is that it has no balls. I mean, West Coast IPAs should be ballsy. This one is merely tasty. Smooth, drinkable...just not too memorable.

Pours clear copper with an off-white head that does some nice lacing. The aroma is quite balance - the hops are citrusy and piney with a creaminess from the malt. It is a medium / full bodied beer with mild carbonation. There is a combonation of malt and hops on the initial taste, but the finish is very piney and woody. It is an okay IPA.
