This is actually a very good beer, but it's lack of richness and body made it miss the mark as a great beer for me. However, it's initial spicy hop rush makes this beer very tasty indeed! PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 26, 2002 2nd tasting: Bright amber with medium fading head. Rich, spicy and slightly citrusy hop aroma. Warming toffee or caramel malt aromas. Generally toffee-sweet malt profile with a light peppery hoppiness and drying finish. Some lingering caramel malt and resiny hop flavors. Round malt sweetness. Nicely balanced and subtle. A classic traditional IPA, and in my opinion one of the most accurate depictions of the original IPA’s. 1st tasting: Grassy hop aroma - British hops? Unexpected for a PNW IPA. Woody flavor with more grassy herbal hops and a mild bitterness. Medium body and rather smooth. Unique, interesting, fairly complex and very nice. LuckeyHaskins99 (180), Toledo, Ohio, USA

An IPA for both the beginner andthe pro drinker. Affordable, yet still stylish. I only bought a bottle of this, but will definately have a six for my next party. Bitter taste, yet still palatible, slight tinny tones, but clear brewed, I know little about the brewer, so someone please enlighten me. This was a great beer for me.... I have no complanints and liken it to the Ballantines IPA of old. Braudog (3773), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 16, 2003 Looked an inviting warm amber-orange with a good head. There's a medium hop aroma. It's followed by a very woodsy and earthy hop-malt balance. The oak conditioning is definitely present and well done. I like this beer quite well. dwyerpg (2545), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Original: 3.1-This beer looks and smells fantastic--if only the taste were as comparable. For some reason, the extra hops in this beer don’t make it better. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 14, 2003 They have changed the name of the brew to "IPA Oak Aged", it's the same brew. Amber hue with a large frothy head and excellent lacing. Aroma is very fruity and piney with a large oak undertone. Hints of smoke, spice, and sweat. Nice crisp hop and malt balance, smooth and very English. Bitter and dry finish. The medium to full-bodied beer has a creamy and soft mouthfeel. If you are a fan of the traditional IPA style, you should seek out the beer now! Highly recommended.
