Commercial Description:
As with the finest old-world stouts, Thunderhead is inky-black with abundant dark-roasted flavor. But this Irish style Extra Stout goes beyond the classic style. It has a wonderful roasted barley character with a noticable but pleasing hop bitterness. Bursting with vibrant hops, Thunderhead delivers rich, smoky flavor with a dry, smooth finish. With enough body to satisfy the most demanding stout zealot, yet smooth enough to please the everyday craft lover, Thunderhead is destined to find broad appeal. This stout reinforces our commitment to producing truly distinctive beers.

Emptied into the glass a pitch dark black, topped with a thin layer of head. The aroma holds a sweet and smokey profile being of roasted malt, chocolate, and licorice. The drink is average and is creamy while also having a fair carbonation level. Has a decent roast flavor to it up next to a mild hop bitterness. One of those beers i will remember i had before, but i won’t have anything in my memory to distinguish it by. Not to shabby of a dry stout.

Pours like used motor oil with a head that reaches, at most, 1/2 centimeter and fades too quickly. Chocolate and spice float from the surface into the olfactory nerves but don’t overpower. Smoke is immediately noticeable upon first taste, but slowly fades into the distance like the refuse from a campfire disturbed by a sudden breeze. At this point, the roasted malt gives a low-pitched squeak and entices the drinker to imbibe further. The hops are noticeable but not overpowering, merely providing a slight bite to the experience.

Malty, chocolate smell. Cocoa, hoppy, and mildly sweet. Ends dry with alcohol finish. A little bitter also.

english pint / aroma of a sugary bowl of cocoa puffs in milk. hmm, the flavor fails with a primarily acidic and bitter flavor, and aftertaste of a lesser equal. where’s the malt, or where’s the quality? it’s just in the aroma. the palate is too fizzy, thin, and surprisingly chewy... nah, not my brew!

A rather light, but well balanced stout that fares well when compared to other American versions of the style. The usual West Coast hoppines is quite apparent in the finish.

Deep dark color. Dark head. Excellent smell of roasted chocolate beans. Reminiscent of some of the better sweet stouts, actually. On initial taste, I think, this is a better tasting dry than guinness, by far. Some metallic taste and sweetness, coupled with a dry coffee finish. Actually, quite a nice stout.

Dark black in color, huge foamy brown head that leaves some lacing in my glass, roasty chocolate-coffee aromas. Chocolate milk coffee flavors, decent roasted bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with a full and creamy mouthfeel, a pretty tasty stout.
