| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2004 Pours black and highly effervescent, however there is minimal head retention. Nose is malty and of chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy. Flavor is slightly bittersweet, coffee/espresso with a stingy/acidic note. Finish fades into a dull dryness

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 5, 2004 Smells sweet and malty. Black beer with a half inch think creamy head. Taste is a little sweet and breaks into a nice bitterness, a little bit of coffee, slightly burnt flavor. Quite nice and very mellow. I figured it would be a bit more of a heavy beer. Nice. eboats (888), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 16, 2004 A thin black with a dark brown head. Aroma is chocolate, fig, and alcohol. Tastes like roasted malts and chocolate to start, only to quickly fade to a watery bitter coffee taste. The hops are noticable at the end of this one and leave the mouth with a bitter roasted taste. This beer could use a stronger body. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 14, 2004 Pours pitch black in color. Aroma is of roasted malts with some chocolate sweetness. Flavor is extremely bitter and of roasted malts. Reminds me of old coffee. Finish provides a little bit of sweetness. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 3, 2004 This was an ok beer. Poured very creamy with a thick white head. Lacing was off and on.
Smelled like chocolate, mocha and cream.
Tasted similar. Big Chocolate milk flavor with a lot of roasted malts and sweetened expresso. Lacking a lot of hop bitterness that I look for in stout. I could barely taste any hops at all which made the finish very thin and dry. Mephistefales (47), USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 2, 2004 Nice characteristic appearance. Starts smooth but ends a little on the bitter side. OK but not particularly remarkable. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2004 Bottle. Looks like a stout. First taste to come out is smoke, CO2, slight acidity, roasted malts, light prune, and some stinging dryness. This is better than I thought it would be. It would be a fairly nice session beer.
