While I love McTarnahan’s (they are perhaps my favorite brewery in the U.S.), this beer was a bit too scorched for my taste. RaginCajun (284), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 29, 2004 This is an average stout, although I’m not the biggest fan of dry stouts. This had a nice bitter taste however. I enjoyed drinking this, but I’m not sure I’ll be looking for it anytime soon since there are several more appealing stouts on the market. jazz88 (2237), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 28, 2004 Bottle. Solid black color with a rich foamy dark brown head. Bitter sweet chocolate, roasted barley, and light coffee aromas. Dry, roasted, slightly smoked, and coffee flavors. There is also a slightly sour or lactic element. dberger624 (1028), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 17, 2004 Bottled. Good stout. Had a nice roasty taste and smell that lasted the whole glass. Only complaint. Was a little thin for a stout. fly (1332), austin, Tejas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 17, 2004 Didn’t find this watery as some did. not thick and luscious as some, but still rather pleasant. A summer stout? Kind of midrange in many respects. Nice hopping/bitterness, fair to good mouth feel, chocolate roast. Loads of better stouts, but so many FAR worse. I like this one. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jun 14, 2004 Thanks to Darkover for the trade. This brew pours nearly black with a thick light brown head that dissipates pretty quickly. Very little lacing. The aroma is rather roasty with a little hops. The body on this Stout is not very rich, but it was one of the smoothest, easiest to drink Stouts I have encountered. I was through the glass in no time. Possibly because it is a little on the carbonated side. Flavors of roasted malt, coffee and hops, but none too abundant. The finish is lightly bitter hops. Overall this isn’t the most flavorful Stout you can find but it scores big points in the drinkability category. pauliefrog99 (302), FLINT, Michigan, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 13, 2004 Poured black with small tan head. Coffee smell. Roasted chocolate coffee taste with some fruity hops thrown in. Also some smokey flavor. VTHopHead (924), Barre, Vermont, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 31, 2004 Bottle - Very dark with a quickly disipating tan head. Aroma is one of roasted malt with some coffee and slightly fruity/floral hops. Not as full bodied as the great stouts, but it is adequate. A bit too much carbonation for my liking. Finish is fairly quick and hop bittered. Good and enjoyable, but not great.
