Commercial Description:
As with the finest old-world stouts, Thunderhead is inky-black with abundant dark-roasted flavor. But this Irish style Extra Stout goes beyond the classic style. It has a wonderful roasted barley character with a noticable but pleasing hop bitterness. Bursting with vibrant hops, Thunderhead delivers rich, smoky flavor with a dry, smooth finish. With enough body to satisfy the most demanding stout zealot, yet smooth enough to please the everyday craft lover, Thunderhead is destined to find broad appeal. This stout reinforces our commitment to producing truly distinctive beers.

Jet black with foamy tan head. The aroma has notes of roasted malts, fruit, semi-sweet chocolate, and coffee. The taste is a blend of sweet and smoky, fruity, chocolate, and coffee. Mouthfeel is somewhat creamy. Not bad.

Pours dark brown - almost black in the glass - with little in the way of head. Aroma is like a mild roasty, oily, espresso with floral hops. Flavor is definitely sweet and almost burnt up front giving way to a very dry, bitter finish. Full body and moderate carbonation.

This was a good dry stout, but it lacked the depth that I really like in this style. Vaguely like drinking a cup of coffee, a little over the top on the roastedness, and very unsatisfying in the mouthfeel. Some nice moist chocolate notes are present, overall a little too roasted and oily with an astrigent finish.

Good flavor, but really suffered in the mouth feel. I would not have picked this as a dry stout. A little coffee roast flavor, but not a good finish.

nothing special. A rich black body with a thin tan head with no lacing. Aroma was coffee like. Taste was mildly bitter, but also watery. Certainly not dry in the finish.

For having such a grandiose title I was a bit disappointed. more of a flickering lightbulb than a tunderclap really. Slightly roasty, but just enough to leave you wondering what the hell happened to the rest of the barley. Hoppier than your standard stout, but there really wasn't enough roasted barley or espresso malt to back it up. I'd consider this a weak version of the Lost Coast 8-ball Stout, as this doesn't really hold its own.

Out of the bottle. Fresh baked bread and some coffee aroma. Flavor starts out sour and mellows a little. Almost no head and a fairly thin mouthfeel. There are better ones in the style.

Dark chocolate and coffee dominate... nice hop finish. Nice stout that would be a good introduction to the style.
