Grainy chocolate aroma and roasted notes. Pretty typical dry stout flavors, although there is a a fruity ester component. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 5/5 | 10/20 | Mar 5, 2004 Light brown head w/ a dark brown opaque body. Roasty and chocolate in the initial nose with some nuttiness as it warms. Some hints of woody aromas and light fruitiness masked by the roastiness. Roasty and well balanced w/ some sourness from dark grains. Overall dry beer as it should be, finishes dry and roasty, low fruitiness. Mouthfeel is dry, borderline astringent, low carbonation, and medium bodied. Not a bad stout, not great, but better than some that I've had. Still not as good IMHO as some of the irish classics. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2004 Thin, chocolate brown head hangs on well into the brew, Just a hint of dark copper brown at edges. nose is chocolatey and roastey, hinting at espresso, spicy hops and somewhat creamy. front is sweet, chocolatey and smooth, leading into a dry, well roasted lingering finish. dark chocolate and coffee notes dabble throughout. not too bad, leaves a bit empty, dry and thin, but a pretty solid stout. Nice warming effect and a sticky, chocolatey/roastey residual effect. Crosses the bridge between porter and stout. reminds me of a Black Butte Porter from Deschutes PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 1, 2004 Very dark, essentially opaque showing a hint of red-brown. Dark creamy head. Rich aroma, featuring chocolate and roasted notes. Some coffee. Rich velvety texture, full caramel-chocolate, soft roasted malt, acrid finish. Well balanced malt creation. An earthy Britishy hop flavor develops in the finish. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA

Nice balance or roasted malt and coffee. Nice bitter finish. This does everything a stout should do but nothing more. xsketchyx (184), Oregon, USA
