Commercial Description:
As with the finest old-world stouts, Thunderhead is inky-black with abundant dark-roasted flavor. But this Irish style Extra Stout goes beyond the classic style. It has a wonderful roasted barley character with a noticable but pleasing hop bitterness. Bursting with vibrant hops, Thunderhead delivers rich, smoky flavor with a dry, smooth finish. With enough body to satisfy the most demanding stout zealot, yet smooth enough to please the everyday craft lover, Thunderhead is destined to find broad appeal. This stout reinforces our commitment to producing truly distinctive beers.

Dark chocolate and coffee dominate... nice hop finish. Nice stout that would be a good introduction to the style.

Black with a thick brown head. Aroma of caramel, molasses, and chocolate. Flavor is slightly fruity up front, with cocoa and smoky tobacco notes emerging later. Dark roasted coffee finish. Perhaps a bit thin, and could use smoother/less carbonation. Nice dry stout though.

Had this beer on 5/6/1999. Color is a solid black with good carbonation and a thick head. Aroma is a sweet rich roasted malt scent. Taste is rich, smooth and roasted. It starts with a rich heavy body with a wonderful roasted malt flavor coming out. This goes down smooth with the roasted malt flavor growing. The finish comes on with the malt flavor peaking, followed by a light hop flavor and good hop bitterness. This is a ver good Stout

Nose of coffee and chocolate; body shows opaque black with a thick, nicely lacing tan head head; flavor is hoppy with coffee, smoky, and chocolate notes.

I forget who brought this to Paul’s party, but thanks.

Poured black with a fizzy brown head. Aroma is light bitter roasted coffee. Taste follows from the aroma, but with very little sweetness or balance. Somewhat thin-bodied. Not bad, but not all that interesting.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a large creamy light brown head that was mostly lasting and produced fair lacing. Average roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture. Medium smoky stout flavor with a good smooth long finish.

[bottle - 12 oz] Dark black pour with a thick tan head. Looks just like it does on the label. Slight aroma of coffee, roasted malts and chocolate. Very good stout smell. The flavor is a well-blended mix of chocolate, roasted malts and coffee with a slightly bitter coffee finish and a bitter aftertaste for a split second. There is a lot of smoky notes throughout the beer. I think this is very much under appreciated. It even tasted good warm.
